Started in 1972, the Bentonia Blues Festival is the oldest blues festival in the country attracting blues fans to Bentonia (Yazoo County), Mississippi from all over the world to experience and celebrate authentic Mississippi blues. The Festival has long showcased the greatest Mississippi blues players over its illustrious history, including Jack Owens, Bobby Rush, Paul “Wine” Jones, Son Thomas, LC Ulmer, Boyd Rivers, Eddie Cusic, and its founder, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes.
We are excited this year to celebrate Henry “Son” Stuckey, who is credited as originator of the unique and haunting Bentonia Blues and who taught more than a dozen Blues musicians in Bentonia, including Skip James, Jack Owens, Cornelius Bright and Jimmy “Duck” Holmes. To honor Mr. Stuckey, this year’s Festival Poster features one of the recently discovered photos of Henry Stuckey first published in April 2019’s issue of Living Blues Magazine!
Starting Monday, June 10th, come experience deep Mississippi Blues each evening starting at 7:00pm Monday through Friday! On Saturday, June 15, the Festival moves just north of Bentonia to the Holmes Family Farm (313 Wilson-Holmes Road) with live Blues on the main stage from 1:00PM to 10:00PM.
