DJ Big Kap Has Died
New York hip-hop veteran worked with Biggie, Funkmaster Flex, and more

Big Kap, an important DJ in New York City’s rap scene, has died. The news was first reported by Funkmaster Flex. The cause of death is unknown. He was 45 years old, The New York Daily News reports. Update (2:48 p.m.): The cause of death was a heart attack, as Kap’s road manager told Billboard.
Born Keith Carter, Kap first came to prominence by DJing with Funkmaster Flex at NYC nightclub the Tunnel in the ’90s. He was affiliated with the Flip Squad, a collective that included Flex, Mister Cee, Cipha Sounds, DJ Enuff, Mark Ronson, and more. In 1995, that group released The Flip Squad All-Star DJs, a compilation album. He also infamously DJed for the late Notorious B.I.G.
In 1999, Kap and Flex released The Tunnel, a compilation album that featured 2Pac, Biggie, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Raekwon, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, and more.
