CLORA BRYANT
CLORA BRYANT, May 30, 1927 – August 25, 2019.
As many of you may have heard, we lost another jazz giant this past Monday. Clora Bryant was an amazing trumpeter and could jam with the best of them. She remained a sadly under-recognized musical pioneer of this great artform. The lone female trumpeter collaborated with the likes of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she played a critical role in carving a place for women instrumentalists in the male-dominated world of jazz. Over the course of her decades-long career proving herself not merely a novelty but a truly gifted player regardless of gender. Today we will recognize this beautiful amazing jazz giant and we will share a few of the gems she contributed to this great art form and the world of music as a whole. Today, Clora Bryant is our featured artist for Women In Jazz Wednesday. May her soul Rest In Peace!
