R.I.P. July 18, 2015 DAVE BLACK (hit by a metro train, age 62), best remembered as the guitarist, background vocalist & co-songwriter with ’70s Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK band, GOLDIE; they came to prominence with their sophisticated 1978 pop hit “Making Up Again”, which spent 11 weeks on the British charts, peaking at UK #7; subsequent singles did not perform as well & the group disbanded in 1980 after four years & three albums; prior to Goldie, Dave had played with the group Kestrel & was a member of The Spiders from Mars (with former David Bowie backing musicians Trevor Bolder, Woody Woodmansey & Mike Garson) who released one self-titled album in 1976; post-Goldie, Dave went on to form (& front) the band 747 who (although popular regionally in the British North East during the early-’80s) did not achieve chart success; he continued to attract crowds at his many gigs throughout the North of England until his passing; some 850 people attended Dave’s service, including Brian Johnson from AC/DC…
