Over fifteen years ago, in the heyday of the modern swing resurgence – SWING46 Jazz & Supper Club opened its doors in Times Square, New York City. Swing dancing clubs were popping up all over the world, and celebrating the rich culture of 1930’s/1940’s through music, dance and dress. SWING46 was unique; both in its premiere location at the crossroads of the world and the involvement of veteran swing big bandleader,George Gee. Under Gee’s musical guidance, the trendy nightclub on Restaurant Row developed a world-class schedule of exciting music and lindy hop. The hot big band sounds of The George Gee Swing Orchestra were the first to grace the SWING46 stage and continue to thrill music lovers and swing dancers weekly at the Tuesday night big band spectacular. Both New Yorkers and tourists from around the world make the pilgrimage each week to experience the ultimate NYC swing big band extravaganza – at the only swing dance supper club standing strong and true (7 nights a week)!
George Gee and his 12 piece swing orchestra (along with vocalists Hilary Gardner and John Dokes) are not just rooted in the past, but also serve up brand new cutting edge arrangements, inspired by the old Harlem Savoy Ballroom era. The ever-evolving ensemble is dedicated to keeping this great American art form ALIVE! Tuesday evenings also regularly feature The SWING46 Big Band Floor Show with the award-winning lindy-hop dance team, SwingFX and a complimentary dance lesson provided by Dance Manhattan Studios!
