WOODSTOCK: The Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) is presenting Karl Berger and Ingrid Sertso with a Jazz Heroes Award on Monday, April 29. Nominated for their dedication and their role in keeping jazz and creative music alive, the award will be presented by Susan Brink, Director of Development and the Associate Producer of the JJA Awards. She will be presenting the award on behalf of the JJA. There will be live music, speeches, an award ceremony, surprise guests, and complimentary refreshments.

NEW PALTZ: JAZZSTOCK presents an event at SUNY New Paltz to celebrate the second annual International Jazz Day. The main event this year is in Istanbul, but there will be celebrations all over the world. Events at SUNY include a roundtable discussion on the business of jazz with the Jazz Faculty, a multimedia presentation by author Marc Myers on the big events that changed jazz history, followed by performances by the New Paltz Jazz Faculty Band + Jazz Students. 2013 Jazz Heroes Karl Berger & Ingrid Sertso will also make a special guest appearance.MARC MYERS: In 2007, Marc Myers, our guest speaker for this exciting event, started www.JazzWax.com, a top-ranked daily jazz blog specializing in jazz-legend interviews and recordings. In 2012 it was awarded Blog of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association. Mr. Myers writes frequently on music and the arts for the Wall Street Journal and is the author of the intimate and compelling book “Why Jazz Happened” (University of California Press 2013), the first comprehensive social history of jazz focusing on the many forces that shaped this most American of art forms.
