The Resurrection of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins

The great blues singer, crazy man, original shock-rock performer and the songwriter who penned the classic, “I Put A Spell on You,” died in 2000. Now bluesman Mike Armando, who was Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ guitarist in the 1970s, has recreated the legendary shows with a new group, appropriately called, The Resurrection of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. This show is an authentic recreation and people attending will think they’re seeing Screamin’ Jay resurrected.

Screamin’ Jay grunted, groaned, snarled and even moaned with intestinal pain during performances. Sometimes he would appear in aboriginal dress, with a bone through his nose and casting voodoo spells. He was always accompanied by Henry, his staff topped with a skull.

The band will perform the well-known compositions like “I Put A Spell on You,” “Constipation Blues,” “Alligator Wine” and lesser-known nuggets like “Feast of the Mau Mau.” Although some dedicated fans might prefer “Armpit #6” or “(She Put The) Whammee (On Me).”

The forerunner to Alice Cooper, Kiss, Marilyn Manson and more!!

It’s a show that will haunt you for a long time!!

Harvie S

Any jazz fan will tell you, Harvie S is one of the great bass players on the scene today. He’s played with the best and he continues to challenge himself and his peers in new artistic directions. Moreover, Harvie is a bassist, producer, bandleader, composer and educator.

Harvie S has performed with masters in jazz and Latin music including Stan Getz, Pat Metheny, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Jim Hall, Michael Brecker, Gil Evans, Arturo O’Farrill, Lee Konitz, Mark Turner, James Moody, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims, Houston Person, Art Farmer, Toots Thielemans, Bob Mintzer, Joe Lovano, Dave Leibman, Vic Juris, Danilo Perez, Paquito D’Rivera, Ray Barretto, Ray Vega, David Valentin and countless others.

Harvie can be heard on over 400 hundred CDs as a sideman and 16 as a leader.

Roster

Gloria Reuben

Gloria Reuben is a singer, actress, and published author whose credits in television, film, theater and music are vast.

Gloria’s career in music includes being a backup singer for Tina Turner in 2000, which led her to record her solo record “Just For You”. Gloria released her first jazz album “Perchance to Dream” in 2015 on the iconic MCG Jazz label. Her second album on MCG Jazz, “For All We Know” was released on Valentine’s Day 2020 to rave reviews.

Gloria portrayed the HIV+ Physician Assistant “Jeanie Boulet” on the hit NBC series ER (a role that garnered her two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination) and acting in multiple regular starring roles in many other television series, including Raising the Bar, Mr. Robot, Falling Skies, Marvel TV’s Cloak & Dagger, and on Showtime’s City on a Hill.

In film, Gloria portrayed “Elizabeth Keckley” alongside Daniel Day-Lewis & Sally Field in the Steven Spielberg film “Lincoln”, appeared with Paul Rudd and Tina Fey in Paul Weitz’s “Admission”, and starred opposite Samuel L. youtube  Chiara Izzi – Bluebird – With the strong desire to be close to my loved ones and to those who invited me to share music, here is my interpretation of the song “Bluebird” by the amazing Sara Bareilles (an artist from whom I often draw inspiration). I also found out that the Eastern bluebird that arrives every year early in Spring, is the official New York’s state bird. They say that its appearance is associated with the promise that something good is about to come in our lives, it’s a symbol of progress, and renewal to come. This song is for me just that: it contains a message of hope and liberation, but at the same time reminds us that gathering our strength and uniting together can comfort us through this ordeal.

AaronA 33-year-old classically trained pianist and composer, Aaron Diehl has made an indelible mark on the jazz world over the last 15 years. The New York Times jazz critics have have extolled Mr. Diehl’s “melodic precision, harmonic erudition, and elegant restraint,” while the same paper’s classical critics have noted, “Mr. Diehl play[s] magnificently.” A graduate of Juilliard, Diehl was named the 2011 Cole Porter Fellow by American Pianists Association, in 2014 became the youngest ever Monterey Jazz Festival Commission Artist and has released two critically acclaimed albums on the Mack Avenue Records label.
