Turner and McCall’s friendship began in Chicago in the 50’s, when they were getting their musical start on the gospel scene. Later, both explored solo careers as well as serving long-time stints as sidemen to some of the biggest names in blues. Even after leaving Chicago, the two would still cross paths on the road, but when Turner learned of McCall’s battle with stage four lung cancer, he made it a priority to reunite with his old friend.
“Going Back Home” was recorded in Chicago, Memphis, and New Orleans. Money, the lone original penned by Cash McCall and recorded here for the first time, joins a collection of nine Chicago blues songs chosen for very specific and sentimental reasons. |
“The overall result is an album that is spirited and spiritually rewarding … This is simply a sensational keeper.” -Iain Patience, Elmore Magazine |
While in Memphis, Benny and Cash appeared on WREG’s “Live at 9” to discuss “Going Back Home”
