R.I.P. jazz bass legend and DC native Butch Warren, age 74. Butch played and recorded with a long long list of jazz greats, like Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, Thelonius Monk, and so many more. He appears on quite a few landmark jazz recording. His big sound and tight swing groove made him an in demand player for many years, until mental illness took a toll on his life wnd career. Butch had been back playing in DC in recent years, and was recently the subject of a feature story in the Washington Post Sunday Arts section.
