2 new versions of Steve Miller Band’s “Sugar Babe” are streaming everywhere now!:

1) A Songwriting work tape “ Early Hotel 4-Track Version” from April 1972

2) A Live Version from Columbus, OH in December 1973

3) The original Album Version

These two alternate versions of “Sugar Babe” provide a glimpse into Steve’s creative process writing the song while on the road. “Sugar Babe Suite” is part of J50: The Evolution of The Joker, which arrives on CD, vinyl, and digital on September 15th.

Steve Miller is honoring the 50th anniversary of the chart-topping, RIAA Platinum-certified studio album The Joker with a groundbreaking new box set chronicling the extraordinary artistic journey that led to its creation.

J50: The Evolution of The Joker arrives everywhere September 15th, and available to listen to today is “The Joker Suite,” a collection that shows the development of album’s title track over four songs: “Lidi – Studio,” “Lidi / Travelin’ (Harmonics – Looking for A Chorus For The Joker),” “Travelin’ (Looking for A Chorus For The Joker)” & “The Joker – Album Version.”

“‘Lidi’ is one of the songs that we finished but never released,” Miller says.

J50: The Evolution of The Joker includes 27 never-before-heard recordings, including eight previously-unreleased songs and six illuminating audio commentaries from Miller himself.

Steve Miller has dug deep into his archives and found an unreleased, full-length concert recording, Steve Miller Band Live! Breaking Ground: August 3, 1977, arriving via Sailor/Capitol/UMe on Friday, May 14.

A variety of formats will be available, including digital, CD, and 2xLP black vinyl. The live concert video will be available to stream on The Coda Collection on Amazon Prime Video.

“This show captures the band right at the peak after The Joker, and in the middle of Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams, a stream of hits…We decided to call it Breaking Ground because that’s exactly what we were doing,” says Steve.

With 38 previously unreleased recordings, including 5 compositions that have never been heard before, and featuring alternate versions of classic songs, live performances and more, all housed in a 100-page hardbound book of Steve’s personal photos, with a 9,000-word essay by David Fricke.

The DVD contains 21 live performances including rare footage from the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert in 1973, ABC In Concert 1974, a 1970 concert from the Fillmore West filmed for Dutch TV, Pine Knob Michigan in 1982, Steve and Les Paul at Fat Tuesday’s (1990) and Austin City Limits in 2011.

Plus the deluxe set includes 10 Guitar picks with Steve’s Pegasus logo, and an authentic backstage pass from the Steve Miller vault.
