Since early December, the Billy Price Band and I have been writing, recording, and honing songs for our new CD, presently untitled, which is now scheduled for release by DixieFrog Records
on June 4, 2013.
Here’s what I can tell you about the CD so far: There are presently 13 songs, mostly original, plus four covers: Part-Time Love (Little Johnny Taylor) with a guest appearance by “Monster” Mike Welch
on guitar; Drivin’ Wheel (Junior Parker, Al Green), a longtime favorite at our shows; Never Get Enough (Bobby Byrd, with a guest appearance on vocals by Mark Stutso of the Nighthawks
); and Sweet Soul Music from the latest recording by our pal Fred Chapellier
, who plays guitar on our new version of the song.
The CD will also include two songs that we wrote with Fred, one with a guest appearance by Mark Wenner of the Nighthawks
on harp; and one song written by Joe Grushecky
, who also sings with me and plays guitar. The rest were written by me and BP Band keyboardist Jimmy Britton, and there is one never-before-recorded song that I resurrected from the old days of the Keystone Rhythm Band. The horns–Joe Herndon on trumpet, Eric DeFade on tenor sax, and Bob Matchett on trombone–wrote and played some great horn parts, and Jason Hollar (bass), Steve Delach (guitar), and Dave Dodd (drums) sound tremendous throughout. I can’t wait for you to hear it–watch this newsletter for more information as the release date gets closer.
You can hear us perform many of the songs from the new album this coming Saturday night, March 2, at Moondog’s
in Blawnox, Pa. The show starts at 9 pm. Also coming up, on Saturday, March 9, we will be at the Pepsi-Cola Roadhouse
in Burgettstown, Pa. for a dinner show along with Norman Nardini
and the Jaggerz
. It should be a great evening and a lot of fun–doors open at 5:30 pm.
We hope to see lots of your winter-weary faces out in the audience during the next couple of weeks, ready for the spring thaw. We will do our best to heat things up. Thanks for reading!
