Hi JEAN PAUL,
FundedByMe has closed a first loan-based campaign. Lenders from 23 countries decided to allocate their money in peer-to-peer loan and support a sushishop in Stockholm. A few days ago Christoffer Hiding got a “Best Album” award on Vid Scandinavian Soul Awards. He raised money for his first album on FundedByMe three years ago. Why these projects are similar? Will Sushirullen follow Hiding’s success and get a Michelin star in the future? Read in the press release below! The real success story: from FundedByMe to Best Album at the Soul Awards. Will Sushirullen take the same route? On 27th February 2015 Christoffer Hiding, the Swedish musician, won the award of “Best Album” at the Vid Scandinavian Soul Awards. 3 years earlier, he jumpstarted his career by fundraising for his first record on FundedByMe. A few days ago, the ecological sushi shop, Sushirullen, closed the first ever loan-based crowdfunding campaign on FundedByMe within 56 hours. Will it repeat the success of Christoffer Hiding and receive a Michelin star in a couple of years?

Christoffer Hiding took 6th place in Swedish Idol 2007 and then began to hold concerts through Sweden. His first single came out the same year but for the following two, his fans had to wait nearly four years. In order to fulfil his dream of producing a full album, he created a reward-based campaign on FundedByMe. After three months he got nearly 60 000 SEK and was ready to realize his project.
Sushirullen was founded in 2012 when they introduced sushi rolls to Sweden. An innovative concept of long sushi rolls that you eat just like a sandwich. The company grew quickly to include several locations. However to continue scaling, they needed funds. In December 2014 Johan Falk, the founder and CEO of Sushirullen, started loan-based crowdfunding with FundedByMe. After three months he raised nearly 100 000 SEK. His next step is arranging the next location for his business.
In crowdfunding it’s not only about the money but also building the community around your idea: fans, customers or both. It’s a great marketing opportunity too – say both Christoffer Hiding and Johan Falk.
They both remarked it was very important to run the idea in their own way. Christoffer wrote in his pitch “ A disc which is 100% me.”
– For me it is crucial to run the business compliant with my own vision. Actually this is the only chance to make it work if there is a single man in charge for the overall and inspiring others – says Johan Falk.
This is why he decided to run a loan-based crowdfunding campaign. He also emphasizes that this model of raising money is 100% online and secure for lenders – they can see the risk indicator by Bisnode scoring agency and risk indicator by FundedByMe which is calculated based on Bisnode and UC financial information. So a lender is aware of the investment risk, but on the other hand knows exactly when and how much he could earn.
Probably my risk indicator back then would have been very high – laughs Christoffer Hiding. – But if you don’t risk you can’t reach your goal. I’m still very grateful for those who believed in me and gave me a chance to go my way. I hope they felt great satisfaction when my album was announced the Best Album at the Soul Awards.
And what are your long-term plans? – FundedByMe asks Johan Falk.
Do you know that beyond China and Japan there are no restaurants with two or three Michelin stars specialized in serving sushi? The sushi rolls that you eat like a sandwich. Maybe the critics will appreciate their taste? Because it’s really delicious!
