According to the AP report, “The German-registered private bus tipped over as it drove into a bend on the A2 highway in central Switzerland and came to a rest on its side, police in the canton (state) of Uri said.” The bus was carrying 13 passengers, including Miller, his ensemble and two drivers. The driver who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident died. The remaining passengers were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, a police spokesman said.
According to Miller’s website, his next gig was to take place in Hengelo, Netherlands, on Nov. 26. The band is listed as Marcus Miller (bass and bass clarinet), Adam Agati (guitar), Kris Bowers (keyboards), Lee Hogans (trumpet), Louis Cato (drums) and Alex Han (saxophone). Miller is touring behind Renaissance, his most recent album, released in August.
Update: The following update was provided today (Monday) by Bibi Green, Marcus Miller’s representative:
“I haven’t had the chance to look at posts, but I know everyone is concerned for Marcus’ safety, and the safety of the band and crew. They were in a bus accident this morning in Switzerland. Sadly the bus driver was killed, but Marcus, the band and crew are all okay. Marcus has already been released from the hospital as have Alex Han and Kris Bowers. Some band and crew are being kept in hospitals overnight. I will be in touch very soon with more news. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.”
The latest update from Bibi Green (Tuesday): “I’ve now seen Marcus and some of the band and crew and they’re still a bit shaken (as one would expect) but they’re okay. I’ve heard stories about the crash and the rescue, and seen photos of the bus…what a nightmare. It’s amazing that they all survived without more serious injuries. I’m so grateful (as are they) that they are all alive and relatively well considering the magnitude of what occurred. Marcus will check in himself within the next day or two.”
