Robert Downey Jr. interview Hub

Robert Downey Jr.

Hi JEAN PAUL,

I hope you’re well and had a good weekend.

I wanted to let you know that I’ve just received a transcript for a 1-2-1 interview with Hollywood star, Robert Downey Jr.

It’s regarding his new movie, The Judge, which he stars in alongside Robert Duvall and which is released worldwide during this and next month.

Downey Jr. is a box-office hit machine. He’s starred in six movies that have each grossed over $500 million worldwide. Two of those films, The Avengers and Iron Man 3, each earned over $1 billion.

It’s easy to forget that just a few years ago, he was seemingly cast aside by the industry. The promising young actor burst onto the scene in the late ’80s with movies like The Pick-Up Artist and Less Than Zero. But drugs quickly dragged him down until he became all but un-insurable. He turned that around with Iron Man; the first film in the franchise earned $585 million at the global box office. Overall the franchise has brought in $2.4 billion. As Tony Stark, Downey Jr mixes arrogance, humour and a hint of vulnerability to create a modern-day superhero everyone loves. Then came the Sherlock Holmes films which gave the quixotic actor yet another studio tent pole on which to hang his hat. And finally The Avengers, which earned him a cool $50 million.

Funny, smart and interesting, he’s one of the more likeable Hollywood actors, and spoke to us about a range of subjects, including:

  • The father and son relationship in the premise of the movie
  • What he’s like as a son
  • The additional pressure he felt on the project as a producer as well as an actor
  • How he came to grow up as a man and take his career more seriously
  • The process involved in his job from this role to that of the other end of the scale, like Iron Man
  • The experience working with Robert Duvall
  • His memories of the late, great, Sir Richard Attenborough

I wondered if you could make good use of the transcript for a forthcoming issue in the near future? It’s now available in full on a first-come, first-served basis with full national exclusivity rights guaranteed.

If you were to purchase it you can use and edit the text however you wish for your publication, and a selection of complimentary hi-res images can be provided to go with the text. Also, through our partnership with Press Association, we have additional photo-shoot images available too, for a small fee. A selection of which can be seen here:
