MODIGLIANI
23 NOVEMBER 2017 – 2 APRIL 2018
TATE MODERN | LONDON, UK
Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920) was a ground-breaking artist who pushed the boundaries of the art of his time. With nearly 100 works, this exhibition will re-evaluate this familiar figure, looking afresh at the experimentation that shaped his career.
Modigliani will bring together a selection of the artist’s iconic portraits and exceptional examples of his lesser-known work in sculpture, including some of his Heads produced before WWI. A major highlight will be a group of his most famous nudes such as Seated Nude 1917 (RMFA, Antwerp) and Reclining Nude c. 1919 (MoMA, NY). The exhibition will also feature some of Modigliani’s best-known depictions of his closest circle, who provided him with much-needed financial and emotional support.
Drawing on archival material and new research, a virtual reality room in partnership with leading VR platform HTC VIVE™ will invite viewers to step into Modigliani’s Paris.

EMILIO VEDOVA DE AMERICA |
FONDAZIONE EMILIO E ANNABIANCA VEDOVA | VENICE, ITALY
MAGAZZINO DEL SALE & SPAZIO VEDOVA
UNTIL 26 NOVEMBER 2017 |
Emilio Vedova’s De America cycle consists of 14 paintings produced between 1976 and 1977, a special period of time for North America, Italy and the arts. In this exhibition it will be put in motion by a special robotic device designed by Renzo Piano. |
All in black and white, these large format paintings reflect Vedova’s longstanding, forceful, expressive dialogue with American art originating in his encounter with the work of Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline in the 1940s. This dialogue continued to develop in the 60’s and 70’s, addressing and interacting with the concerns of students and intellectuals such as Allen Ginsberg and Dore Ashton. |
Combining the aesthetic language of the past, the intensity of Futurism, an affinity for the Eastern gesture of the sign, action painting and Abstract Expressionism, the work of Emilio Vedova is widely recognized today as among the most seminal art produced in Post-war Italy. |

DRIFTWOOD, OR HOW WE SURFACED THROUGH CURRENTS |
A SERIES OF SOLO PRESENTATIONS THROUGH THE STREETS OF THE EXARCHEIA NEIGHBOURHOOD IN ATHENS |
17 JUNE TO 22 JULY 2017 |
|
Curate Award presents “Driftwood, or how we surfaced through currents”, conceived by Belgian curator Evelyn Simons (1989) and supported by project coordinator Ilektra Kalaitzaki. It explores the movement of people, the circulation of capital, and how these endless flows of motion are organized, systematized, controlled and contested. |
The exhibition will feature 11 site-specific solo presentations by contemporary artists: Larry Achiampong, Meriç Algün, James Bridle, Hera Büyüktaşçiyan, Jeremy Hutchison, KERNEL, Chrysanthi Koumianaki, Persefoni Myrtsou & Eva Giannakopoulou, Lara Ögel, Maria Papadimitriou and Lloyd Corporation. |
The wide range of artistic contributions deployed across the city of Athens (on advertising panels, in a café, empty shops and a garage, etc.) investigate shared thematic topics: advertising and marketing as tools used to cover up the exploitation of globalized production processes; labor ethics; the notion of home as a personal or collective construct; the structural limitations of human movement and thought; imposed or self-governed cultural identity; and practices dealing with community-building. |

THE EY EXHIBITION: DES IMPRESSIONNISTES À LONDRES, ARTISTES FRANÇAIS EN EXIL (1870-1904) |
2 NOVEMBRE 2017 – 29 AVRIL 2018
TATE BRITAIN | LONDRES, ROYAUME-UNI |
La guerre franco-prussienne de 1870 fut à l’origine d’une vague d’émigration d’artistes français outre-Manche parmi lesquels Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, James Tissot. |
