THE JAZZ NETWORK WORLDWIDE

Kevin now has three solo albums under his belt: the self-produced solo debut, Timetable (2002); the George Duke-produced, One Life To Love (2008); and the new self-produced, I Live For You (2016). Although Kevin eschews any effort to force him into a category or genre’, he freely admits to defining himself as “primarily a jazz vocalist who just happens to be a Christian”. He exhorts, “I hope I never agree to be just one thing. A true artist never wants that. I have been-and will remain-free to explore the musical universe. There’s too much out here to stay locked into one soundscape forever. Music is big, but Jesus is infinitely bigger. I want to touch his face with everything he puts in my heart to do. I hope people find my new record, I Live For You, refreshing, and dare I say it, groundbreaking.”

Featured This Week On The Jazz Network Worldwide:  Spoken word/jazz ensemble COPUS blends jazz and classical music with spoken word on their latest CD release “Aspects”.

COPUS is well known for integrating the two worlds of literature and music through jazz and classical music that continues to make a progressive statement on their current CD release “Aspects”.

COPUS is a spoken word/jazz ensemble that presents conscious lyrics intertwined with beautiful melodies for the sophisticated listener.  “Aspects” is an extension of the continued effort of renowned poet Royal Kent and ASCAP award-winning composer Wendy Loomis. The track “Haves & Have Nots” was nominated for best jazz song by the Hollywood Music and Media Awards.  In addition, COPUS collaborated with Steadfaster Media to produce a music video of track “COPUS to the World” which was viewed over 1,200 times in the first day of release.

“Royal and I formed COPUS years ago with the idea of bridges – between words & music, between the university & the street, between ages & races, between classical & jazz. The word COPUS is an acronym for Creation OfPeace Under Stars – even more appropriate today than when we conceived it.” ~Wendy Loomis, composer/pianist/co-producer

COPUS includes flutist Monica Williams, bassist Patrick Mahon, drummer Greg McRay and an array of guest artists. The group has performed at clubs, theaters, festivals, and private events in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Nashville, Atlanta, Boston and Western Massachusetts. The band is looking to expand their horizons and is currently looking to garner exposure through worldwide jazz festival bookings.

“COPUS is a very innovative musical expression that is gaining a loyal fan base. In today’s musical landscape, integration of genres is a new way of cultivating a new audience in jazz” says Jaijai Jackson of The Jazz Network Worldwide.

“The jazz styles are very complex and the music that is created is
absolutely masterful. These compositions are amazing with just the music, but then you get the added pleasure of the smooth spoken word vocal styles of Royal Kent. His poetic onslaught of powerful lyrics are mind boggling,to say the least. His silky smooth voice holds a tight grip on the listener’s ear and keeps them in a state of mind numbing ecstasy… COPUS could become legendary if given the opportunity to thrive!” ~ Michael Allison, MusicDish.com

COPUS created an ingenious presentation entitled “Poets & Composers Salon” which is a monthly house concert that presents the best indie talent of the Bay Area in an intimate, home setting. Each Salon features spoken word/jazz ensemble COPUS, ambient duo Phoenix Rising, and guest artists including storytellers, poets, singers, videographers, dancers, and instrumentalists. The intimate setting of a home provides the perfect backdrop for creativity, networking, stimulating conversation, and putting away the distractions of technology for a few hours.

Their upcoming show is on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 in San Francisco featuring COPUS along with ambient duo Phoenix Rising, and singer/songwriters Karen Soo Hoo and Nathan Love.

COPUS & fellow jazz artists event – Shelton Theater, SF – Sat., Aug. 13th, 2016.

Erin Krebs
Love Always Wins

Soaring vocals, stellar musical performances, and an upbeat vibe are the essence of this exciting debut album by Erin Krebs.
Love Always Wins is comprised of eleven original songs presented in a variety of styles from start to finish- from traditional Jazz to soulful R&B and gritty Blues. Listeners will be tapping thier feet to the swing tunes, falling for the ballads, and groovin’ with the R&B songs.
Erin has always been influenced by the Great American Songbook and traditional Blues styles. The songs and arrangements are reminiscent of those traditions, but with a modern twist. Her lyrics are honest and somehow familiar, because they are about things we encounter in everyday life.
The recording process was also influenced by the Jazz and Blues masters of the past, with the musicians all working together in the moment. Love Always Wins takes you back to that simpler time, and it works because Erin assembled an amazing group of talented and award-winning musicians.

Love Always Wins kicks off with “Love Ride”, a swinging tune with virtuosic solo work, then melts into one of the album’s ballads, “Fall Song”, featuring Mark Martin on piano. “It’s You, My Love” is a light Latin-inspired tune, and one of two songs where Erin plays flute. Next up is a minor swing tune, “I See You”, where you’ll hear some word-painting with the melody and lyrics and some playful improvisations before getting to “My Favorite Day”, another Latin Jazz style tune featuring Justin Zopel on bass. “One Summer Day”, a beautiful ballad, is stripped down to just Erin accompanied by her partner and guitarist, Jeff Johnston. The band is swinging with a catchy melody on “Count on the Blues” before getting soulful on the slow-jam of the album, “When Love Comes to Play”, which features Stephan Cooper on tenor sax. “Ahead of the Game” is an up-beat catchy R&B tune featuring a fantastic solo by Brian Gruselle on Hammond organ who is also featured on the next tune. “The Man I Want” is a fast Blues Swing with a blazing tenor sax solo. Erin lays it all out on the final track “Love Always Wins” a soulful Blues-inspired song with a stellar guitar solo by Jeff Johnston.

Those that have seen Erin Krebs perform know that when she sings, she sings from her soul. Her performances are genuine and heartfelt, and audiences feel an instant connection to her and her music. New listeners will sense that same incredible energy, and it resonates in the performances on this album, Love Always Wins.
