As a legendary artist who has enjoyed a most illustrious career,  performing with a series of prestigious bands before moving to Europe. It was important that he combined his two worlds, the country where he was born, to flourishing in foreign countries as a U.S. State Department cultural ambassador, touring Brazil, Africa, and Japan. A similar role previously held by Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, and Dizzy Gillespie. As an expatriate and Swiss citizen, Queen’s growing reputation allowed him to deepen his ties to the thriving jazz community abroad while holding dual citizenship, which he held proudly and lived up to for thirty years. “It seemed to be the smartest move for me to spread my life across the seas where my livelihood was welcomed in its highest form,” says Alvin. Since forfeiting his US passport, Alvin was invited to perform at a program sponsored by the French-American Cultural Foundation entitled “Jazz Meets France”. The program was intended to commemorate the centennial of the United States entry into the first world war and the Harlem Hell fighter’s appearance in France, (369th infantry regiment). This particular commemorative event required him to apply for a 01B work visa to participate. Due to the new travel ban in place, it, unfortunately, took longer than expected and had to forfeit the opportunity. “It may take some time to rectify even though I have been issued six new passports over the past half-a-century with no issues. Jazz has always been about freedom with unlimited possibilities and potential and that is why I keep traveling the world sharing its message, no matter how long it takes to be given the green-light in bringing my artistry back home” says Queen. Florian CAMBOULIVES
C’est à l’âge de huit ans que Florian CAMBOULIVES commence le saxophone alto. A quinze ans, il quitte le conservatoire et commence les cours particuliers avec Richard Raux, grand saxophoniste de jazz. C’est peu après qu’il rencontre Amaury PIERRE pour débuter une collaboration qui n’a jamais cessé. Début 2011, ils décident de fonder ensemble le groupe “The Jazz Spirituals”.
Gaël WAJNGLAS
Gaël WANJGLAS connait ses premiers émois musicaux en s’essayant au piano chez ses grands‐ parents. C’est lors d’un festival qu’il découvre la guitare jazz en assistant à une brillante démonstration de ce qu’on appelle aujourd’hui “jazz manouche. Bouleversé par ce qu’il vient d’entendre, il décide de se consacrer dorénavant à ce style à la guitare et se plonge dans l’univers du jazz. Depuis, sa passion pour cette musique sous toutes ses formes n’a cessé de grandir. Il a joué et s’est produit en concert avec de nombreux groupes swing et depuis 2009, dans un contexte plus bebop avec The Jazz Spirituals.
Amaury PIERRE
C’est à l’âge de 5 ans qu’Amaury PIERRE commence la musique. C’est dans l’année 2005 qu’il rencontre le jazz par l’intermédiaire du jazz manouche. Il s’ouvre peu à peu à des formes de jazz plus poussées et créé, dès 2011 un groupe de jazz plus orienté Be-Bop, avec son ami et collègue Florian CAMBOULIVES.
Georges CORREIA
Georges CORREIA a toujours évolué dans un univers musical riche, nourri de courants très diverses.
Son intérêt pour le Jazz allant grandissant, il décide
de suivre, au sein du réputé CIM, une formation
qui durera deux ans. Par la suite, sa curiosité musicale le pousse à s’orienter vers un jazz plus
contemporain. C’est en 2011 qu’il rencontre le guitariste Gaël WAJNGLAS, qui lui propose d’intégrer la formation The Jazz Spirituals, ce qu’il accepte avec joie.
Thomas DELOR
Né le 5 juillet 1987 à Nice (France), Thomas Delor débute la batterie dès l’âge de 8 ans et se tourne très rapidement vers le Jazz. Batteur autodidacte d’une grande musicalité, réputé pour son jeu original, expressif et haut en couleurs mêlant finesse, intensité, sensibilité et complexité, il base son travail principalement sur l’écoute, l’échange avec les musiciens et la recherche de sonorités.
Il remporte en 2010 le concours Jazz à Juan Révélations, puis est lauréat 2015 du Golden Jazz Trophy (présidé par Archie Shepp et Jean-Claude Casadesus)
C’est par l’intermédiaire de Georges CORREIA qu’il rejoint The Jazz Spirituals en 2014.
