Quick note from Dr. Boyce: I was honored and thrilled to see that all of the presidents in the AUC (Morehouse, Clark, Spelman and the Morehouse School of Medicine) signed onto the letter against mass incarceration written by myself and Russell Simmons. The movement has garnered support from across the board from celebrities, scholars and activists from every walk of life (from Will Smith and Justin Bieber to Michelle Alexander and Jesse Jackson). The Attorney General’s Office is now being responsive, and it is my greatest hope that we can make progress on this horrible mass incarceration epidemic that has destroyed so many families across America.
As the son of a police veteran, I am a strong believer in justice. But by locking up parents and leaving their kids to fend for themselves, we are only creating another generation of criminals and making our society less safe than it was before…..Education over Incarceration, its really that simple. We must invest in our kids, not destroy them.
