Highlights Kunsthal Rotterdam
This fall at Kunsthal Rotterdam: a varied and diverse programme with dance, visual arts, photography and our 25th anniversary.
We start with ‘Conny Janssen Dances’ celebrating her 25th anniversary with an inspiring ‘extra-large’ cross-fertilization between the Kunsthal building, the art, the dancers and the public.
Also on show the exhibition ‘Cat Love. Nine lives in the art’, a family exhibition focusing on man’s attraction to cats. For ages, our favourite hairy muse with its thick coat of fur, long whiskers and rebellious behaviour has been a source of inspiration for artists.
On Wednesday 1 November 2017, the Kunsthal Rotterdam – with its Rem Koolhaas-designed building, an instant architectural icon – will celebrate its 25th anniversary. To mark this anniversary, the Kunsthal is hosting a four-day party.
On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the Kunsthal Rotterdam will present a large retrospective exhibition of Paul Delvaux, one of the leading painters in Belgian art history. With ninety works, including paintings, drawings and water colours, the Kunsthal will pay tribute to this artist.
Kunsthal Rotterdam Highlights Spring 2017
In the spring of 2017, the Kunsthal Rotterdam will be presenting a varied and richly-contrasting programme that devotes plenty of attention to photography and fine art.
The spring programme starts with the exhibition ‘Human/Digital: a symbiotic love affair. Digital Art from the Brown Family Collection’,with spatial objects, projections and installations by international artists including Jon Rafman, Josh Kline and Rafaël Roozendaal.
From 25 February, the exhibition ‘Hyperrealism. Fifty Years of Painting’ presents a unique overview of hyperrealistic painting through the work of three generations of American and European artists including Chuck Close, Robert Bechtle, Richard Estes, John Salt and Franz Gertsch.
From 22 April, the Kunsthal Rotterdam will be presenting a major retrospective of the life and work of Robert Mapplethorpe (1946 -1989), one of the most influential artists and photographers of the 20th century. The exhibition provides an impressive overview of his entire career, from his initial works in the late 1960s to his untimely death in 1989.
