Noel Neal, a true master on the bass, has died. In a statement on his Facebook page, Noel’s brother Kenny Neal posted, “It breaks my heart to tell you that my brother Noel Neal has passed. Noel spent 30+ years playing bass and singing in James Cotton’s band. Please pray for our family at this time especially for Ma.”
Neal had journeyed to Chicago where he played with James Cotton for years. He performed with many stellar artists during his career including Johnny Winter, Lucky Peterson, Lonnie Brooks, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, and Koko Taylor. Neal also played with many stalwarts of the Second City scene. He will be remembered for his superb playing, his amazing stage presence, and so much more.
