STANLEY CLARKE Janvier 2014

2013 was such a great year for Stanley that we decided to put out our newsletter with a round-up of 2013 highlights moving into his upcoming 2014 dates and new CD updates. Of course the loss of Stanley’s good friend and fellow musician George Duke was a sad note for the year.

In 2013 Stanley toured with his band as well as with Chick Correa, George Duke, Hiromi, The Harlem Jazz Quartet, John Beasley, Lenny White, Zach Brock, Charles Altura, Mahesh Balasooriya and others on various dates. Early in the year touring band members for the last few years Ruslan Sirota and Ronald Bruner, Jr. left to explore their individual opportunities. Stanley replaced them in his trio lineup with drummer Mike Mitchell and pianist Beka Gochiashvili. Both are award winning jazz child prodigies still in their teens. Stanley’s very excited about the vitality their youth and skill bring to the band.

In addition to the US, Stanley toured in Brazil, Japan and Indonesia, Dubai and Taiwan. He hit the Telluride Jazz Festival, New Mexico Jazz Festival, Low Country Jazz Festival in Charleston, Long Beach Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz Festival, Dubai Jazz Festival and City of Lights Festival in Las Vegas.

2013 Highlights:

Grammy’s 2013 – Stanley performed with, Chick Corea and Kenny Garrett on the televised CBS broadcast of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards February 10, in a tribute to jazz legend Dave Brubeck. They performed one of Brubeck’s best remembered pieces, “Take Five,” ending with a few bars of his enduring hit, “Blue Rondo a la Turk.” For many years Jazz, Classical and other musical genres outside of Pop have been delegated to the Grammy Pre-Show, which has only been available as an online broadcast. Stanley had praise that the Grammy producers changed it up a bit this year. For more….

Grammy Museum – in May Stanley was invited to participate in “An Evening with Stanley Clarke” at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. The sold out evening consisted of an interview session with Grammy Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli, an audience Q&A and a performance by Stanley, John Beasley and Mike Mitchell. Excerpts from the evening can be seen athttp://www.grammymuseum.org/events/detail/an-evening-with-stanley-clarke and http://www.grammy.com/news/stanley-clarke-visits-the-grammy-museum

Downbeat Magazine – Stanley was honored to be named the top Electric Bass Player in both the 2013 Downbeat Magazine Critic’s andReader’s Polls.

On a sad note, Stanley’s friend and oft tour mate of over 40 years passed away suddenly August 5. Stanley remarked, “George left a huge footprint in the music industry. He was a light, bright star with a certain unique skill set. When he passed away, it went away. However, as with all of us, his music and accomplishments will live on.” Stanley spoke at George’s memorial: http://youtu.be/qhR2WHyIAQk

Best Man Holiday – Stanley spent much of the last half of the year working on the music score for Malcolm D. Lee’s film, Best Man Holiday. The film that premiered November 5 and was released nationwide November 15 was a huge hit topping the charts in attendance for several weeks. For more…
Stanley also did a short YouTube video on composing the score at http://youtu.be/DKdPPY_Jv98.

STANLEY WISHES ALL OF YOU A WONDERFUL 2014!

He has already started the new year off producing tracks for a new record he is working on with Al Jarreau, which is a tribute to George Duke!

Stanley is also currently hard at work on his own new album. His only comment about this album so far is that it is going to be “fun, rhythmic and upbeat.” He plans the release date for late February or early March 2014. More on this later.
