ProgStock Festival Artist Spotlight:
The Tangent (Europe)
Aisles (Chile)
Circuline (USA)
Date: Wednesday, June 14th, 2017
Hello Jean-Paul,
Here at ProgStock, we’re excited to be exposing the U.S. East Coast
to an international lineup not seen at other festivals.
Have you seen international touring artists The Tangent, Aisles, and Circuline
on the same bill before? Have you seen them perform live before?
THE TANGENT
Formed in 2002 by keyboardist Andy Tillison, The Tangent is a well loved progressive band who has toured internationally, produced many recordings, and are currently promoting their ninth studio album, “The Slow Rust of Forgotten Machinery”.
This year at ProgStock, The Tangent will be featuring a stellar six piece line up – featuring Andy, bassist Jonas Reingold, and the other musicians will be Luke Machin (Guitar), Marie Eve De Gaultier (Keyboards, Vocals), James Stewart (drums) and Goran Edman (Vocals). The music will be personal choices of the best that The Tangent have to offer from across the years – and will be delivered by a young, supremely talented and enthusiastic band who are all friends!
AISLES
Here are Aisles from Chile who just a few weeks ago, opened for Marillion!
With four studio albums and a career spanning twelve years, Aisles have become South America’s most acclaimed prog act of the last decade. Their daring combination of rock, fusion, jazz and world music illustrates the band’s uniquely liberal and eclectic approach.
The group has played in South America and Europe, and their albums have been published in Europe, the Americas, and Japan.
In 2009, their second album, ‘In Sudden Walks’, was nominated for Best Foreign Record in the Italian Prog Awards and the group was invited to open the 11th Progressive Rock Festival Crescendo in France. Their third album, ‘4:45 AM‘ (2013) was widely acclaimed worldwide and was chosen among the best albums of that year in a number of specialized publications. ‘Hawaii’ (July, 2016), their fourth studio album was called a “masterpiece” and named one of the albums of the year by media outlets such as Prog (England), Neoprog (France), Raw Ramp (England) and Chile’s premiere rock magazine, Rockaxis.
The band members are Germán Vergara (guitar, vocals), Felipe Candia (drums, percussion), Sebastián Vergara (lead vocals), Rodrigo Sepúlveda (guitar, vocals), Daniel Baird-Kerr (bass), and Juan Pablo Gaete (keyboards).
CIRCULINE
The modern cinematic progressive rock band Circuline features two theatrical lead vocalists, a keyboard player from Juilliard, a jazz-rock genius on guitar, a rocking bass player from another galaxy, and a drummer with progressive rock in his DNA.
One review of their 2016 release, “Counterpoint”, raves that “Circuline has arrived, time for Progland to embrace them wholeheartedly…easily one of the very best US bands in recent memory”, while PROG magazine describes it as “healthy doses of Yes, Rush, and Gentle Giant, but there are also creeping, [Steven] Wilson-esque atmospherics, cinematic soundscapes and modern tonal beef…powerful harmony vocal arrangements…an intriguing, impactful record that spans the classic and modern prog worlds.”
Their debut release from 2015, “Return”, has been called “breathtaking and imaginative, at times bombastic and grandiose, occasionally diving into more obscure sounds that will seem dark and ominous, always propelled by first rate vocal dynamics…a hugely entertaining debut from a band that certainly has set its sights on becoming a prog staple.”
A top-three finalist for PROG Magazine’s 2016 Limelight award for best new band, Circuline recently performed at the 13th International Rites of Spring festival (RoSfest) in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania alongside headliners Spock’s Beard and Zebra. Additional 2016 gigs include the New Jersey ProgHouse, Philadelphia’s Liberty Music Fest, and Chicago’s Progtoberfest. Circuline has previously opened for 20-year prog veterans Glass Hammer (east coast U.S. tour), and has repeatedly co-headlined the traveling Sonic Voyage Fest. Upcoming June 2017 gigs include opening for IO Earth in England, and performing at the Harmonix Music Fest. The band members are: Andrew Colyer (keyboards, vocals), Darin Brannon (drums, percussion), Beledo (guitars), Joel Simches (bass), and lead vocalists Billy Spillane and Natalie Brown.
