FRED SMITH

Fred Smith, bassist for Television, has died at 77.
The news was confirmed by bandmate Jimmy Rip; no cause was announced, though he had been ill in recent years.
Smith joined Television in 1975 (replacing Richard Hell) and played on Marquee Moon and Adventure; he was also an early member of the group that became Blondie.
