THE ENTHUSIASM IN THE EYES OF REFUGEES IN THE ZA’ATARI CAMP WAS STRIKING

At WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations), our ambition to go beyond the framework of sport and embark on a path of social responsibility and sustainability took on a new dimension following a meeting. ISF Cambodia’s Football for Change Outreach Project wins the Peace and Sport Award “Sport for Development and Peace Program of the Year”!

Over the last 13 years, the NGO Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF) Cambodia has been providing education to children living in conditions of extreme poverty, combining sport, health care, education, community awareness, and the development of employability skills.

As part of its “Football for Change” outreach project, ISF Cambodia has trained 200 future coaches in its social impact program over the past year. This program uses football-based activities to raise awareness about specific social issues as well as minority rights while teaching essential life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and conflict resolution. After the training, 20 coaches, including 5 women, were selected to offer weekly “football-for-social-impact” coaching sessions to 500 children (40% of girls) from disadvantaged rural areas of Cambodia.

FACING THE GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS, THE JUDOKA COMMUNITY GETS MOBILIZED

“Judo is not just a sport. It is much more. It’s impossible to reduce it purely to its sporting dimension. This has always been the case, going back to the origins of the sport. Its Japanese inventor, Jigoro Kano, created judo in 1882 as a sports discipline, but he also intended it as a tool for social development which emancipates the mind and body, contributing to a more just society. Since then, we have never lost sight of this principle and these values. They are inscribed into the DNA of judo, its institutions, its champions and its practitioners.(…)”

PEACE THROUGH SPORT ISN’T STOPPING. #WHITECARD FOR GLOBAL SOLIDARITY

“April 6, 2020, should have been a day of celebration. On this date as every year, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace should have brought communities and people together physically. It was meant to be a new illustration of the collective mobilization of the sports movement all over the world. It still will be. But the exceptional circumstances imposed by the current health crisis will give it a different dimension and format this year. At a time when the entire planet is fighting daily for its health, faced with a virus with effects that are still uncontrollable, sport could seem secondary, even futile. But it isn’t. It can be a platform for global solidarity.(…)”

Three-time Olympic Gold Medallist and Champion for Peace

Opinion – 18/03/2020 by Pyrros Dimas

USING THE POWER OF SPORT TO “LIFT PEACE UP”!

“I won my first Olympic gold medal in 1992 at the Barcelona Games. I was 20 years old. I discovered the Olympic universe. I was born and lived my early years in Albania, as a member of the Greek minority group. I was completely unaware of the power that sport can exert on youth, on society, and even on an entire country. At the time, Greece was engaged in a patient reconstruction process. It sought to regain confidence in its future and the accession to the European single market. Additionally, the capital city, Athens, was bidding to host the Olympic Summer Games(…)”

“With the way I have experienced sport, I know that it is a personal development tool for all young people. If we know how to accompany them in the practice of sport, we can train responsible and committed citizens. The goal is to compete in a competitive process while respecting the opponent. Whether they are excellent or not, they must be respected. These are values that are useful in social life. Beyond sport, we also find ourselves in situations of competition and collective work where we have to assume our responsibilities.(…)”

“I discovered football when I was 7 years old. In Bethlehem, in my country Palestine. When I started, girls didn’t kick balls. Nobody accepted it. There was nothing for us.

Joël Bouzou, Président-Fondateur de Peace and Sport, a déclaré :

A propos du Forum International Peace and Sport

I will not forget. Never. I will not forget the experience I just had in August with Peace and Sport. I went to my school in Makamba, the city of my childhood, where I discovered both education and running. This brought my memories to the surface of learning sport, discovering its values, but also the taste for effort and the sense of sacrifice. Thanks to the Friendship Games, I had a very emotional time(…)

SPORT AS A VEHICLE FOR UNITY

I grew up in a large family in New Caledonia. I had 17 brothers and sisters and we were part of the Nang tribe on Lifou Island. So I was educated with traditions, a culture that is different to the metropolis.

I started playing sport at an early age; my father was a school instructor and for him it was a means of quickly attracting children’s attention. We were given the choice of several different items we could use during recreation periods, including ropes, balls and footballs, so we could exercise during these few minutes. Sport has always been part of me, starting with athletics and later playing football (…)

CAN SPORT CHANGE HOW WE TALK ABOUT RAPE?

“There were so many people who were killed and massacred, but still I wish I was dead. I wouldn’t live with this burden.”

The words spoken by a victim of the Kosovo war, a woman raped and tortured over and over by soldiers as part of a war strategy to punish and ethnic cleanse.

This is not the first time I have heard these words spoken, nor have they come from just the mouths of women. No matter what country I go to, the rhetoric is the same: ‘I would rather die than be raped’. (…)

S.A.S. le Prince Albert II rend visite à l’organisation monégasque Peace and Sport

Joël Bouzou, Président-Fondateur de Peace and Sport, a déclaré :

Joël Bouzou, Président-Fondateur de Peace and Sport a rencontré S.E.

“THE WORLD CUP 2019 MAY BE A TURNING POINT”

On Friday 7 June, football will focus on women. On that day, the sport invented by men for men will put women on centre stage, who will take up their position with pride. Deservedly so. The World Cup 2019 promises to be the most publicized competition since the creation of the event, twenty-eight years ago in China. In France, the TF1 television group will broadcast the twenty-five best matches live, including all of the French team’s matches. (…)
