The New York-born six string sorcerer will kick off his springtime trek in Lisbon, Portugal, on March 24, and the tour will continue through to May 7 in Helsinki, Finland.

“Myself and the band are as oiled up and ready as ever,” says Vai. “I’m excited to finally bring the Hydra guitar to Europe as I missed doing that on the last EU run. The response from [2022 album] Inviolate was tremendously positive and it showed in the press, the attendances and the energy in the audience and we are so much looking forward to this EU tour.”

my new guitar

This photo was taken at a high school dance when I was either 13 or 14. This was the first gig I ever played in front of people! That’s a Univox Les Paul I owned and the Fender Bandmaster amp in the background was my first real amp. I purchased the cabinet from Joe Satriani when I was a kid and oddly enough, while going through my archives for some Julen’s auction items, I found the handwritten receipt for it from Joe! My new record “Inviolate” is out today. The release day of a new record for an artist can feel like finally giving birth! I enjoy my life as a musician very much and days like today are those special moments. That feeling of enthusiasm to write, record and perform music has never left me, and “Inviolate” is the evolution of all of that. Steve Vai et Legacy Recordings célèbrent le 25ème anniversaire de Passion and Warfare avec une édition spéciale de 2 CD présentant pour la toute première fois les compositions et enregistrements de Modern Primitive. Modern Primitive est l’aboutissement de son premier opus, Flex-Able, sorti en janvier 1984. Il a été élaboré à partir d’ébauches de chanson et de compositions inachevées signées et enregistrées par Steve Vai. Le second CD inclut les titres remastérisés de Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Edition. 

« Flex-Able est si différent de Passion and Warfare que l’on peut se demander si c’est bien le même artiste qui a enregistré ces deux albums », avoue Steve dans les notes d’accompagnement de la collection. « Modern Primitive est le trait d’union entre ces deux opus, une sorte de Vai version Cro-Magnon. »

Récemment remastérisé à partir des bandes originales, l’album Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Edition contient quatre titres inédits issus de l’enregistrement de Passion and Warfare.

Le coffret Modern Primitive / Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Edition sera présenté dans un boîtier souple à quatre volets, accompagné d’un livret de 20 pages sur Modern Primitive et d’une affiche de Passion and Warfare (pliée en 24).

Outre la sortie inédite des morceaux « perdus » de Modern Primitive, le compositeur/producteur et virtuose de la guitare électrique, Steve Vai, célèbrera le 25ème anniversaire de son album phare,Passion and Warfare, avec une tournée mondiale à compter du 28 mai prochain, au cours de laquelle il présentera, pour la toute première fois, l’intégralité de ce répertoire instrumental imprégné d’un rock novateur. « J’ai toujours rêvé de présenter cet album sur scène dans son intégralité (en y intégrant, certes, quelques arrangements très surprenants) », confie Vai.  « Il y a des chansons que je n’ai jamais jouées en concert. Je suis enchanté de constater que, 25 ans après leur sortie, je me sens aussi inébranlable que ma technique à la guitare et plus prêt que jamais à relever ce défi. »

Souvent cité parmi les albums rock les plus exceptionnels et influents jamais enregistrés, Passion and Warfare de Steve Vai a été produit, à l’origine, par le label Relativity/Epic Records en septembre 1990, avant d’être certifié « disque d’or » par la RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Cet album, inspiré par une série de rêves que l’artiste faisait lorsqu’il était plus jeune, Vai le présente comme « la rencontre entre Jimi Hendrix et Jésus Christ à une fête organisée par Ben Hur en l’honneur de Mel Blanc. » Enregistré au Mothership, le studio établi au domicile du chanteur, sur les collines d’Hollywood, Passion and Warfare comprend « For the Love of God », un incontournable considéré comme l’un des meilleurs solos de tous les temps dans un sondage adressé aux lecteurs du magazine Guitar World.
