MOONJUNE Records

2021

Dear Friends in Music

The oldest and the most respected jazz magazine in the USA and probably in the whole world, is open to vote for your favorite record label, favorite artists and albums and musicians – jazz & beyond jazz, in the 86th Annual DownBeat Readers Poll.

downbeat.com/readers-poll

Every year I am asking label’s fans and supporters to vote for MoonJune. Why? Not only that it helps MoonJune, a brutally independent record label run solely by yours truly, but because also because many of MoonJune associated artists that are based in secondary and tertiary music-industry territories, far from the glitziness and eyes of New York, Los Ángeles, London, Paris or Berlin. Being associated with MoonJune, they can be better exposed internationally, they can get more attention in their own country, and they also can apply for grants. MoonJune musicians often come from places such as IndonesiaSerbiaSpain, SloveniaBosnia & HerzegovinaBrazilBelgiumUruguay not only from the USAUKGermany or Italy. And soon there will also artists from ChileIranSouth Africa and so on and on. Musicians cannot do everything by themselves, they need help, guidance, support – specially ion they are coming from secondary and tertiary territories.

In order to vote in the 86th Annual DownBeat Readers Pollthe magazine requirement is to be subscribed, and the E-SUBSCRITION is absolutely FREE, with no obligation to buy anything, and You will be receiving occasional email newsletter from them, and DownBeat doesn’t cover only jazz, they have covered King Crimson, The Allman Brothers Band, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, The Doors, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and many other. They are very open minded.

Besides voting for MoonJune in the Record Labels category, I suggest also to vote for the following:

Allan Holdswsorth – in the category Hall Of Fame
Soft Works ‘Abracadabra Live In Osaka’ in category Historical Album.

Legends such as Allan HoldsworthElton Dean and Hugh Hopper, who are not with us anymore, deserve more attention in this poll, as well their Soft Works companion, the legendary drummer John Marshall. Despite my effort and push, DownBeat somehow completely ignored this historic album of Soft Works which marks the beginning of the legacy of Soft Machine which includes Soft Machine Legacy and Soft Machine (2002-2021 and onward), but also the beginning of MoonJune Records and my booking and management agency MoonJune Music.

And please consider also Gary Husband (piano, keyboards and drums category), Tony Levin (bass and electric bass category), Soft Machine (jazz band category), and all other great musicians featured on MoonJune albums.

Again, You are not only helping an independent label run by one person only, but also You are helping talented artists from around the globe, which, if not for MoonJune, You would never ever know of. Thanks to MoonJune Records, artists such as simakDialogDewa BudjanaDwiki Dharmawan, Tohpati, Xavi ReijaBeledoVasil HadzimanovDusan Jevtovic, Vasko AtanasoivskiDennis ReaMark WingfieldSrdjan IvanovicMichel Delville, Dominique Vantomme and others, became familiar to fans of the progressive jazz.

There are many categories to choose from in the 86th DownBeat’s Reader’s Poll. The only limitations are for the choice of albums – only those albums released between July 1, 2020 and June 30th 2021 qualify.

You might know, MoonJune always sells CDs and direct downloads 2-3-4 months more month before the official release, and before digital distribution, to boost the direct sale on the MoonJune’s website. Downbeat has this release dates on file, if You decide to vote for any of below mentioned albums and musicians involved with those albums. (Click on each album to stream the music on BandCamp.)

SOFT WORKS feat. Elton Dean, Allan Holdsworth, Hugh Hopper, John Marshall – Abracadabra In Osaka (Jan 30, 2021)
VASKO ATANASOVSKI ADRABESA QUARTET – Phoenix (Jan 30, 2021)
MARK WINGFIELD with JANE CHAPMAN and ADRIANO ADEWALE – Zoji (Jan 30, 2021)
DWIKI DHARMAWAN – Hari Ketiga (Jan 30, 2021)
DENNIS REA – Giant Steppes (Feb 2, 2021)
STEPHAN THELEN – Fractal Guitar 2 (May 28, 2021)
MARKUS REUTER –  Sun Trance (Sep 3, 2020)
GARY HUSBAND & MARKUS REUTER –  Music Of Our Times (Jul 9, 2020)
STICK MEN – Owari (Dec 23, 2020)

Of course, You can vote for whoever You like, Your friends, favorite new and niche musicians.  And do not think this kind of polls are not important – it’s a fake news. They are VERY important for independent labels and musicians. We all love Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, and other legends – but less known artists deserve a bigger spotlight, more attention. Now more than ever.  Legends and big names will always be there, no matter what.
Yours truly and immensely thankful
LEONARDO PAVKOVIC
in the name of the extended MoonJunista family.

asafsirkis-moonjune.bandcamp.com/album/solar-flashSOLAR FLASH is the new album of Israeli born and UK based drummer, composer, arranger and educator Asaf Sirkis, featuring a stellar line-up consisting of English keyboardist extraordinaire Gary Husband, Scottish bassist Kevin Glasgow, and special guests Polish vocalist Sylwia Bialas and USA born English guitarist Mark Wingfield.

Expect some haunting ‘outer space’ electro-acoustic sounds with a wide range of dynamics ranging from Erik-Satie-like gentle ballads all the way to high energy electric Prog-jazz-improv and everything in between.

In the words of Mr. Robert Wyatt:
“I’ve known Asaf’s gifts for years, certainly enough to say that as far as I can see, there’s NOTHING he can’t do when he puts his mind to it. Of course on this innovative record his kit skills just keep expanding but what really gets to me here are his ethereal, haunting compositions, which take the soloists into uncharted territories, guiding them but allowing them freedom to dip and dive through their solos in their own sympathetically idiosyncratic ways. So this is a remarkable recording which, with its very distinct individual voices, has nevertheless the feel of a single living organism: Quite acombination!”

In the words of Dr. Bill Bruford:
“Listening to Asaf Sirkis at work, two things are immediately obvious: passion and commitment. Blessed with technical skills that are disarmingly under-played, his middle-Eastern sensibility balances the potentially volcanic with the meditative and reflective. A master of creative surprise, it’s on the edge of your seat listening when Asaf’s in town.”

ASAF SIRKIS – drums, compositions, arrangements
GARY HUSBAND – acoustic piano, keyboards
KEVIN GLASGOW – 6 string electric bass guitar
with special guests:
SYLWIA BIALAS – vocals (1, 3, 4)
MARK WINGFIELD – electric guitar (3, 5, 8)

Recorded at La Casamurada studio, Banyeres del Penedes, Catalunya, Spain, by Jesus Rovira. Mixed by Christoph Reiss. Mastered by Alex Klebl at Marell Music, Germany.  Album artwork by Sylvia Bialas. Photos of the Solar Flash Band by Borislav Kresojevic.

Produced by Asaf Sirkis of StoneBird production in association with Leonardo Pavkovic of MoonJune Records. International release executive production by Leonardo Pavkovic.

In July of 2021, the newly formed supergroup PAKT – featuring bassist Percy Jones, guitarist Alex Skolnick, drummer Kenny Grohowski and guitarists and soundscapist Tim Motzer – have performed 4 shows promoting their debut album on MoonJune Records. For all 4 musicians that was the first time playing in front of the real audience, in 16 months,

JULY 22 – PAWLING, NY (Daryl’s House)
JULY 23 – KENNETT SQUARE, PA (Kennett Flash Rooftop Series)
JULY 24 – BROOKLYN, NY (ShapeShifter Lab)
JULY 25 – SELLERSVILLE, PA (Sellersville Theater)

Every show is different from each other, every show is recorded, and all four shows will be released digitally this late Summer and early Fall. And this coming Winter PAKT will record studio album to be released in the late Spring of 2022. Supporting this digital only live albums, will make the new studio album possible.

Upcoming shows:
SEP 10 (Fri) – TBC
SEP 11 (Sat) – Syracuse, NY (Epic Fest)
SEP 12 (Sun) – Hudson Falls, NY (Strand Theater)

Eleven months before this July-22-2021 performance – on August-15-2020, the very first  PAKT performance – playing masked and distanced to a dimly lit empty venue in the midst of the pre-vaccine pandemic era – had  a surreal quality that informed the music. Now here we were about to make our our debut to a live audience at Daryl’s House in Pawling, once again playing completely and spontaneously improvised music. To be honest, we weren’t 100% sure how it would turn out. Would a comparatively normal situation – a room full of music lovers enjoying beverages and bites while listening intently – inspire us to go on similar spontaneous journeys? If so, would our audience go there with us? As soon as the lights went down, the travelling began. Throughout the evening, there were cheers and responses from our first crowd. It was as though we’d planned our arrangements as meticulously as a tune by Hall & Oates. By the time it was over, the answer to those questions had been a clear and resounding “yes.” We are grateful the Daryl’s staff and a sizable audience for taking a chance on a project that is thoroughly uncharted (in more ways than one) and proving to us that the PAKT experience has a life beyond one strange night in the midst of a pandemic. More live music to be released, enjoy!  – Alex Skolnick

Dear Friends in Music
Exactly 20 years ago, around my 39th birthday (May 17, 2001) my MoonJune Records odyssey started as a side amateur gig, aimed to help a few friends and a few progressive bands from Italy, while still working for the legendary Studio T Graphics located at Union Square in Manhattan. I had no idea what I was doing then.
In a very extensive interview with Chris Slawecki for All About Jazz in 2018, I have recounted how this MoonJune odyssey actually started. You can read the whole interview here:
The stew was boiling slowly but progressively during the whole 90’s, but a series of events in 2000, starting with January 1st 2000, when I reconnected with my old friend, the legendary Elton Dean, everything has changed, exponentially. And my life has changed forever.
Thank You all from the support all these years, and above all, I am grateful and thankful to all musicians who made my one-man-operated label, bigger than my life, with their extraordinary and uncompromising talent.
Yours truly
Leonardo Pavkovic

This is a FREE online event this upcoming Sunday celebrating MoonJune’s 20th anniversary. The online ZOOMeeting will take place on Sunday, May 16, 2021, 2pm NYC time (8pm Berlin time; please check Your time zone).
Special co-hosting appearance by the legendary jazz, fusion and prog scribe John Kelman of All About Jazz. The chat will be about adventures and misadventures of a one-man-army running a small enterprise in a very unorthodox way, achievements and debacles, stubbornness and persistence, human relationships, thick skin, lunacy, difficulties in the murky waters of the business of music, challenges, frustrations, joys, achievements, struggle, travels, touring, crude reality of the world in which we currently live, and above all – dreams. And its not all about Horatio Nardini.

“Leonardo, you are a magician, enabler, a Don Quixote, and my favorite one-man company in the world. I don’t think any single actor in my realm of the musical cosmos knows so many people and can remember them all. Long may you continue your ‘improvisations, survivings, pursuit of your passions, and navigations on the fly’. You sound like a musician without an instrument in his hands.” (Dr. Bill Bruford)

SLEEPING BEAUTY album
is out now
Everything is a source of pleasure in this album: the magic of the trumpet, the candor of the flute, the inventiveness of the drums and bass, the lyricism of the guitar.
    – Jean-Claude Vantroyen, Le Soir (Belgium)
Ivanović feels the breadth of jazz, and through the mix of musicians from different parts of the continent, he seems to want to send a message about how much this genre today represents a universal musical language, connecting kindred souls by feeling, emotion, inclination towards beauty, or towards discovering beauty….’
    – Voja Pantic, Politika (Serbia)
‘Sleeping Beauty’ is a romantic, reflective, sensual-associative-emotional album. Nowadays, we probably need such sounds, so it’s really worth going to this fairy-tale land, if only to take a deep breath.
    – Marcin Pulawski, Laboratorium MF (Poland)

A ‘five-member’ ensemble, the International Blazin’ Quartet is led by Bosnian born and Paris, France, based drummer, composer, arranger and educator Srdjan IvanovicBlazin’ Quartet and their special guest maestro flutist Magic Malik, delivers on their 4th studio album ‘Sleeping Beauty’, a very profound, organic, timeless and articulate sound. Nine tracks of unpredictable, potent, refreshingly divorced from the sonic status quo while exceedingly brilliant creative mettle are offered, awaiting for the attentive listener’s pleasure.

Seldom does such an ensemble jazz cast weave so seamlessly, yet play with such heartfelt emotion, conviction and, at times, abandon. With an inherent, extraordinary chemistry on display, moments of the most rare, exquisite beauty materialize while ascending to the fore. A delightful, resounding lack of pretense, combined with abounding imagination and sparkling, upper-echelon performances, contributes to an album that’s as fresh and ingenious as ensemble jazz gets, from every facet.

Praised by Downbeat Magazine as “a band that twists and tweaks conventions” Blazin’ Quartet has been pushing the boundaries of improvised, ethnographies and electronic jazz since it’s creation in Amsterdam in 2008.

The multi-national Blazin’ Quartet features Srdjan Ivanovic (Bosnia & Herzegovina; drums, keyboards, compositions, arrangements) Andreas Polyzogopoulos (Greece; trumpet), Federico Casagrande (Italy; guitar), Mihail Ivanov (Bulgaria; double bass), and special guest Magic Malik (Ivory Coast; flute).

In the words of Srdjan Ivanovic:

My life has consisted of many moves, changing countries, neighbourhoods and appartements, more often than I wanted to. I’ve come to realise that what has meant home for me is music, and in particular the music I hear in my head. This music is personal but if you wanted to categorize it I guess you would say that it’s rooted in the Balkans (as in the mix of strong cultures of the east and the west, not just as in ‘’party brass band music’’) and is expressed through Jazz, and Jazz for me means freedom and ex- pression, that’s what I fell in love with, the freedom and expression that be-bop brought and that flourished into many different sounding music creations.

Blazin’ Quartet has transformed over time in many ways, as the 3 previous albums and this new one might tell you. After moving to Paris I wanted to reinvent the band, find musicians that would bring something new but yet stay true to the innovative, ad- venturous spirit of the music we previously made. The musicians were chosen to fit this music and the ideas I had but also the music was chosen to fit these great musicians. They are all masters of their instruments and very strong personalities and I wanted to give as much of that as possible, within my own musical vision.

I also distilled my previous ideas about making an album and went for a photographic approach to music on tape – capturing a vibe, not looking for a perfect take. I was inspired by the idea of sleeping beauty, that only the awakened mind sees. To put it in another way – I never fully understood why a diamond is so much more valuable than the so many beautiful stones that you find on any beach. Anyway, with this album I wanted to deliver music that I felt was right, without giving in to preconceptions of what a ‘’jazz’’ album should be and let the musicians on it shine in their best light. I was really happy that an unexpected trumpet solo by Andreas – later turned duo when I overdubbed the keyboards – was a track that I loved and kept. Or that an unplanned guitar solo, by Federico, would end up on the album. On the tunes with Magic Malik, Rue des Balkans and Guchi (another unplanned event at the recording session, a tune from Jalkan Bazz, one of our previous albums) we again went for the vibe and the journey.

The title track, Sleeping Beauty is inspired by my wife Catherine. It’s not a typical decision to start an album with a ballad and to have a drum-trumpet free-jazz battle instead of a solo but I think that it actually makes sense. The birds in the intro and outro were recorded at our lockdown location, at dawn for the intro and at night fall for the outro. I was lucky enough to spend the lockdown in the coun- tryside, near Sancerre in France, and more than ever before spend three months in isolation and close contact with nature.

Finally – in the last years I have been listening so much to Ennio Morricone that I had to do something about that. I’m a big fan of melody – which I think is the king of music – and Ennio Morricone was a king of melody! The Man With the Harmonica is a very well known tune of his and I think we managed to stay true to it, without changing much, and at the same time transform it into some- thing almost unrecognisable. So, although the music didn’t really change, the vibe is not anymore the vibe of the duel between Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda in ‘’Once Upon a Time in the West’’ but instead it’s ‘’ours’’, I guess something more on the mediterranean side. The other tune ‘’A l’aube du cinquième jour’ is a tune that just with the melody takes you on a journey, proving my earlier point about melody! Again, we didn’t change much but gave it our own rendition that I think makes it very personal.

I met illustrator Severine Scaglia at the playground as a friend-parent and again, I thought that that’s a place as good as any to discover a great artist. I admired her collages for both their aesthetics and their message which illustrated so well her subjects. I think that this cover illustrates closely this music, a collage of very simple elements that through the illustrator’s vision awaken in the composition as a whole.

Finally, this album is a realisation of my people who believed in it, Leonardo Pavkovic of MoonJune Records, and the team at Le Coolectif, as well as press agent Valerie Mauge, and booker Sabrina Ouyang, who are helping bring it to you. As much as we can do, we need people to help us bring forward what we do.When initially asked to talk about this new album, my first thought was to say that beauty ‘’sleeps’’ in everything but when I think again I would rather say that everything is beautiful but we are ‘’asleep’’ and don’t experience it. But, sometimes, somebody creates something that touches us, wakes us up, and for a moment we see everything shining in it’s true light. I hope this recording does that to you.

Coming out in June, the new studio album ‘Solar Flash’, of the amazing drummer

Asaf Sirkis

, with a foreword by no more no less than

Robert Wyatt

, in company of maestro

Gary Husband

on piano and keyboards, and wonderful 6-strings bass guitarist Kevin Glasgow. Another sonic gem from the recording sessions at

La Casamurada

studio in the beautiful countryside of Catalonia, Spain. Special guests on 4 tracks each are

Mark Wingfield

(the omnipresent MoonJunista) on guitar and

Sylwia Bialas

on vocals (Sylwia also created beautiful artwork for the CD package). This is the 12th album featuring

Asaf Sirkis

, and the 8th album featuring

Gary Husband

, two among my favorite people and dear friends, on

MoonJune Records

.

**

Robert Wyatt

wrote: “I’ve known Asaf’s gifts for years, certainly enough to say that as far as i can see, there’s NOTHING he can’t do when he puts his mind to it. Of course on this innovative record his kit skills just keep expanding. but what really gets to me here are his etherial, haunting compositions, which take the soloists into uncharted territories, guiding them but allowing them freedom to dip and dive through their solos in their own sympathetically idiosyncratic ways. So this is a remarkable recording which, with its very distinct individual voices, has nevertheless the feel of a single living organism:

Quite a combination !”

**

Bill Bruford

on Asaf Sirkis: “Listening to Asaf Sirkis at work, two things are immediately obvious: passion and commitment. Blessed with technical skills that are disarmingly under-played, his middle-Eastern sensibility balances the potentially volcanic with the meditative and reflective. A master of creative surprise, it’s on the edge of your seat listening when Asaf’s in town.”

***** Special dedication on this album is for

Sun Ra

and

Eric Kamau Gravatt

, two among Asaf’s favorite musicians. You have to hear it, once is out! A hell of an album! And I am in Sonic Paradise, while listening this gem!

MoonJune Music (booking and management) is celebrating 20 years since its inception this March 2021. MoonJune Records (label) is celebrating 20 years since its inception this May 2021.

VASKO ATANASOVSKI – alto & soprano saxophone, flute (Slovenia)
SIMONE ZANCHINI – accordion (Italy)
MICHEL GODARD – tuba, serpent (France)
BODEK JANKE – drums & tabla (Poland/Germany)
Special Guest: ARIEL VEI ATANASOVSKI – cello (Slovenia)The Adrabesa Quartet consists of four exceptional musicians, brought together by its long-standing founder and leader: composer and saxophonist, Vasko Atanasovski.Vasko is a well-known and well-established European maestro, having collaborated with renowned musicians such as Hindi Zahra, Vlatko Stefanovski, and Living Color, among a celebrated career. His masterful, unpretentious approach to his instrument has seen him embrace a host of diverse genres, exhibiting a fluency and grace which compliments any musical setting. The quartet’s musicians are among the leading virtuoso instrumentalists in the world. Simone Zanchini is an Italian accordionist, who has been collaborating with Vasko since the early part of this new millennium. (Simone is the only founding member still with Vasko since the Adrabesa Quartet’s initial incarnation, back in 2005.) With the two having collaborated on numerous albums and concerts, Zanchini’s advanced musical stylings are a superb compliment to Atanasovski’s polished melodic sensibilities.A virtyoso on his instrument, Zanchini’s eccentric brilliance has garnered praise and recognition. In 2016, he received the coveted Orpheus Award – for “Best Jazz Album of the Year,” in Italy. Simone’s commanding presence has propelled what has become an extensive resume of collaborations; many with noted jazz musicians such as Bill Evans, Adam Nussbaum, John Patitucci, Jim Black, Paolo Fresu, Gianluigi Trovesi and Javier Girotto, among many. He regularly performs across the globe, and is a featured soloist with the Milan Scala Orchestra. The Adrabesa Quartet’s tuba player, Michel Godard, hails from France. Michel has enjoyed a distinguished career: one which has seen him work with many great artists, including Kenny Wheeler, Ray Anderson, Michel Portal, Louis Sclavis, Henry Texier, Enrico Rava, Michael Riessler, Rabih Abou-Khalil and many others. Godard has also collaborated with Vasko for many years; including a most recent performance at the 2020 Maribor Festival – where the two were paired as featured artists, backed by the Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra. The unit’s fourth member – who plays percussion and Indian tabla drums – is Bodek Janke. Currently residing in Poland, Bodek is the quartet’s newest member. His is also a career marked by accomplisment and embellished by stellar names. In 2008, he was awarded the “Jazzpreis Baden- Württemberg”, the highest award for jazz musicians in Germany and the “German Records Critics’ Award” (“Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkri- tik”), for his work on Olivia Trummer’s “Westwind.”In 2010, he was honored as “Best Soloist of the Year” at the Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis competiton, in Mannheim. He, too, has collaborated with scads of great artists, most notably of which are David Liebman, Ben Monder, Dave Binney and Billy Harper. After assembling the group for an ongoing, inspirational Melem (translation: “Soul Remedy”) project back in 2017, there was an organic chemistry which quickly emerged. Inspired, Vasko and company decided to produce an exquisite musical document, highlighting their own original works and incorporating an assortment of regional ethnic musical dialects. Compiling a collection of pieces as quirky and unconventional as the quartet’s instrumentation (sax, accordion, tuba and percussion), “Phoenix” stands as a shimmering testimony to both their considerable individual talents and corporate inventiveness. Inspired by some divergent musical roots — combined with a sense of nostalgia and genuine passion for their craft — the aptly titled album signifies the rebirth of a unit with a long-standing reputation for creative excellence across Eastern EuropeJoining the quartet’s magical sonic adventures is special guest, Ariel Vei Atanasovski. Ariel is Vasko Atanasovski’s 17-year-old son: a gifted young cellist, and ambitious understudy of renowned cellist, Professor Niko Sajko, at the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet, and Slovenian virtuoso, Igor Mitrovic (also a Professor), at the Klagenfurt Music Conservatory. A musical prodigy, Ariel has remained active in various fields of music from a young age, and can already boast of numerous performances, international awards and original compositions. Boasting a musical maturity which belies his age, Ariel’s contributions only add to “Phoenix”s allure.
DWIKI DHARMAWAN Acoustic Piano, Mini Moog, Fender Rhodes, Harmonium, Occasional Vocal & Ambient Noises (Indonesia)
BORIS SAVOLDELLI Vocals, Vocal Effects, Live Electronics (Italy)
MARKUS REUTER Touch Guitars® AU8, Live Electronics (Germany)
ASAF SIRKIS Drums, Cymbals, Occasional Ambient Noise (Israel)

The tactic of bringing together exceptional musicians for spontaneous recording in an idyllic setting of La Casa Murada, a XI Century farmhosue transformed in temple of music and recording studio, has resulted in a growing body of work that does much to define the identity of Moonjune. Hari Ketiga, under the nominal leadership of Indonesian keyboard wizard Dwiki Dharmawan, takes this tactic into another realm entirely, building a many-layered artistic construction out of improvisation, reassembly, grand concepts, and unfettered creativity. The foundation of this massive work is a series of improvisations at La Casa Murada on May 17, 2017 involving Dharamawan (piano, electric piano, synthesizer, harmonium), Boris Salvoldelli (vocals and effects), Markus Reuter (Touch Guitar and electronics), and Asaf Sirkis (drums). These improvisations, some of which were quite lengthy, were then edited into backing tracks (in a manner somewhat like what Teo Macero used on Bitches Brew and other Miles Davis albums) by Pavkovic, and then Salvoldelli added more layers of vocals in collaboration with writer Alessandro Ducoli, who helped develop a cosmic storyline involving the destiny of the planet Earth and all its inhabitants. Dharmawan contributed some field recordings from Indonesia for another layer of sound. The result is a double CD set two and a half hours in length full of music that has been astonishing listeners since parts of it started sneaking out a couple of months ago. This is a stunning example of what can happen when musicians are encouraged to reach beyond their comfort zones, to do things they might never have tried in more structured situations. Dharmawan shows himself to be incredibly versatile, with some sections that are achingly lyrical, richly tonal, and full of emotion and other parts that are chaotic and filled with some of the strangest synthesizer playing you’ll ever hear. Salvoldelli is of course known for using his voice in unconventional ways, so his contributions are less surprising. Reuter is in territory only slightly removed from some of his more unconstrained previous work. He provides ambient washes much of the time, but also screaming feedback with really insane effects applied. Sirkis is often the keeper of the tempo in the absence of a dedicated bass player, devising some fascinating rhythms that don’t adhere to conventional patterns. All in all, there are too many points of interest to go into. Suffice to say that it’s never boring or predictable, and much of Hari Ketiga sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard before. With individual tracks running all the way up to 34 minutes in length, listening to it may seem akin to binge watching an entire TV series in one sitting, but people do that all the time, so maybe there are listeners with an attention span up to this task. With Salvoldelli’s vocal antics, it’s hard not to pay attention when this music is playing, so casual listening is a challenge, but the depth of sound and creativity here should provide new discoveries for years to come.  – Jon Davis, Exposé Magazine

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING INDEPENDEMT MUSIC INDUSTRY
Hello JEAN-PAUL
Hope all is well in Your world during this unprecedented time in the modern history.
Please find in this e-mail download code for the MoonJune Records’s newest release.

GARY HUSBAND & MARKUS REUTER – Music Of Our Times

For the BandCamp novices, here are instructions how to download the album:
All downloads are in HD, 24bit (superior than the CD 16bit files), and You can choose all or any formats: WAV, FLAC, ALAC/M4A or MP3-320.

This download comes with the PDF of digital booklet and the album can be entirely streamed on this link, with all the information related to the album.
MoonJune Records still believe in the physical product, but the current environment in the music industry, out-bloody-outrageous hijack of the shipping prices, and everything at the end screwed by the consequences of the COVID-19, and MoonJune prefers sending high quality digital downloads, but still sending promotional CDs to top 250 contacts around the world (I remember days when I used to send 1000+ CD promos!), which now in recent years causes a substantial financial burden to the decaying world of the truly independent music, due to the outrageous shipping costs from the USA anywhere in the world.
Stay safe, healthy and sane in this insane world.
Cheers from New York City.
LEONARDO PAVKOVIC

GARY HUSBAND & MARKUS REUTER

Music Of Our Times
MoonJune Records, MJR101 (April 2020)

Yet another facet of two contemporary genii is revealed. Maestros Gary Husband and Markus Reuter embark on an impromptu journey of both mind and soul, in one of the most unique, timeless efforts ever to grace the MoonJune label – or, for that matter, the improvised and avant-garde genre – with the release of the recherché, “Music Of Our Time.”And, fittingly occupying the label’s 101 space – starting the second century of releases in the same fashion as MoonJune first came into being (with the initial release: Elton Dean & Mark Hewins’ “Bar Torque”) – yet another monumental duet takes shape: perhaps in defiance of the circumstances which prompted its creation, as well as the industry environment into which it is birthed.

Temporarily stranded after performing only one show in Japan, at Blue Note in Nagoya, and having the remainder of the Japan and China tour with Stick Men (Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto and Markus Reuter) with very special guest Gary Husband (on keyboards), abruptly cancelled, together with producer Leonardo Pavkovic, Husband and Reuter quickly constructed a ‘Plan B’ on the fly. Acting quickly, they booked a block of studio time in a Tokyo before their return flights. In a candid, unrehearsed setting, the two bared their souls – uncovering further evidence of their fluid, inventive natures.

Inspired by the house’s beautiful Fazoli Pianoforti grand piano, Gary Husband unveils new depths of his unique musical prodigy. Markus Reuter proves the perfect compliment: kinetically synchronized in effortless perfection to his partner’s every shift and turn – with graceful elegance, and rich textures providing spacious understatement throughout proceedings.

The chemistry between artists takes its immediate and obvious form: through their mutual reverence of the musical moment at hand, exhibited through seemingly telepathic interplay and dynamics. The result is a priceless gem: “Music Of Our Time” is a lustrous jewel of exquisite beauty and magnificent stature … an ethereal creation, which ventures to places and spaces music rarely accesses.

GARY HUSBAND – Equally versatile on drums, piano and keyboards, and being considered one of the virtuosos on any instrument he plays, Gary recorded and performed on all continents in past 4 decades with greats such as John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, Jack Bruce, Robin Trower, Billy Cobham, Quincy Jones, Nguyên Lê, Ulf Wakenius, Mike Stern, Jimmy Haslip, Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Beck, John Etheridge, Al Jerreau, Soft Machine, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Stick Men, Markus Reuter, Level 42, Lenny Hite, Randy Brecker, Andy Summers, Eddie Jobson UK, Steve Hackett, Gongzilla, John Wetton, Jerry Goodman, Vinnie Colaiuta, Matt Garrison, Ranjit Barrot, Etienne M’Bappe, Alex Machacek, Dewa Budjana, Mark Wingfield, Asaf Sirkis, Keith Tippett, Theo Travis, and many others.
MARKUS REUTER – Markus is German multi-disciplinary musician, composer, record producer, sound engineer and instrument designer. Reuter’s work as recording artist, solo performer and collaborator spans (and frequently fuses) electrophonic loop music, contemporary classical music, progressive and art rock, industrial music, world jazz, jazz fusion, pop songs and pure improvisation. Initially trained as a pianist, he subsequently studied Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft and learned to play the Chapman Stick, later moving onto the U8 Touch Guitar. Reuter has released several solo recordings and worked extensively with other musicians. He is the member of the avant-progressive rock band STICK MEN (with Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto of the King Crimson fame), in which he is the main composer. He is also one of the core members of the experimental band Centrozoon, half of the duo Tuner (with Pat Mastelotto) and was also a member of Europa String Choir. Reuter has collaborated with Ian Boddy, Robert Rich, No-Man singer Tim Bowness, and many others. Markus Reuter has joined Devin Townsend’s band in August of 2019.

Thinking of and writing about Jimi right now –

THEWRONGOBJECT.BANDCAMP.COM
from the album Plays Hendrix

2014

https://thewrongobject.bandcamp.com/album/plays-hendrix

Augmented by the addition of the otherworldly talents of young maestro keyboardist, Antoine Guenet (The Wrong Object; Sh.TG.N; Univers Zero), fellow sonic adventurers — and Machine Mass founders — guitarist Michel Delville (The Wrong Object; douBt; Alex Maguire Sextet) and drummer Tony Bianco (douBt; Elton Dean; Dave Liebman) combine forces to steam through a set which provides a refreshing retake of some of the most

influential psychedelic rock classics from the ’60’s that changed the face of music! While the songs reference frameworks familiar to most classic rock aficionados, the comparisons end there: the trio follows flight plans which are uniquely their own, achieving moments stunningly fresh, instinctive, profound and moving. The addition of piano and keyboards to the tracks provides a welcome approach, imploring reharmonizations as well as complete revisions many hipsters, both young and old, will revel in!

In typical Machine Mass fashion, the music thumbs its nose at convention and is unapologetically uninhibited in its delivery. The group pushes boundaries on all front, producing a record that is as fascinating from a tonal / textural perspective as it is from the ‘harmonic rethink’ and the mass of corporate liberties taken within the song structures, respectively.

Machine Mass’ “Plays Hendrix” is an engrossing, brilliantly conceived retake on some of rock’s most adventurous classic moments; a quintessential album for fans of rock, psychedelic and progressive, alike.

Indonesian guitar legend of Balinese ethnic heritage and balinese Hindu faith – Dewa Budjana – marks his initial Favored Nations release in grandiose style, offering his most ambitious album to date,“Zentuary.” Supported by an all-star cast of enormous proportions – including jazz drums (and occasional pianist) legend, Jack DeJohnette (Miles Davis; over forty years on the ECM label), the iconic progressive bass and stickman, Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel; King Crimson; Stick Men), and the extraordinary superstar sideman talents of Britain’s Gary Husband (Allan Holdsworth; John McLaughlin; Billy Cobham; Jack Bruce) – Budjana offers a profusion of cross-cultural delicacies which tease, cajole, enthrall and, ultimately, satisfy listeners. Special guests include guitarist Guthrie Govan (The Aristocrats; Steven Wilson; GPS), Tim Garland (Chick Corea; Bill Bruford), Danny Markovich (Marbin), Czech Symphony Orchestra and Indonesian flutist/vocalist Saat Syah and Indonesian singers Ubiet andRisa Saraswati.

Dewa Budjana, a veteran player whose 30 years career has already been marked by collaborations with a virtual “who’s who” of jazz, fusion and prog luminaries (Peter Erskine, Vinnie Colaiuta, Antonio Sanchez, Chad Wackerman, Jimmy Johnson, Jimmy Haslip, Dave Carpenter, Reggie Hamilton, Ben Williams, Joe Locke, Larry Goldings, Janis Siegel, Dwiki Dharmawan, Ron Thal Bamblefoot, Billy Sheehan, and many others),  still manages to raise the stakes and elevate the level of his game on his fifth solo album.

Aside from his renowned skills on guitar, Zentuary documents Dewa Budjana‘s position as one of the genre’s most prolific, accomplished composers and arrangers. The music on this 2-CD set is a magnanimous affair, where its highly skilled participants are given ample space to create and express. The net result is a soaring, synergistic mélange of brilliant, articulate instrumental progressive rock, jazz-rock fusion and world music. After 4 successful and critically acclaimed releases on MoonJune Records (“Dawai In Paradise”, 2013; “Joged Kahyangan” in 2013, “Surya Namaskar” in 2014″, and “Hasta Karma” in 2015)  this is  – under the auspices of MoonJune Music and MoonJune Asia  – a Favored Nations debut of the Indonesian icon not to be missed!

LIGRO “Dictionary 3″
Available now on BandCamp and in 10 days also on CD on MJR’s website.
After a nearly three-year absence, the seminal Indonesian jazz and fusion master guitarist Agam Hamzah, and his power avant-jazz-rock trio returns to the spotlight with guns blazing! Ligro’s Dictionary 3 makes good on all of the promise suggested by their 2012 international debut on MoonJune Records, Dictionary 2 – finding the group in commanding form, delivering a soulful, ambitious effort that rocks with brute force and conviction.
Featuring a special guest appearance by the young Indonesian jazz keyboard prodigy, now based in Los Angeles, Ade Irawan (who was 18-year-old at the time of the recording), the album ventures to domains which highlight the amazing versatility, depth and unbridled sense of adventure that has become this multifaceted group’s trademark. Highlighted by the sometimes-explosive, sometimes-syncopated, but always highly engaging rhythms of renowned players, bassist Adi Darmawan (one of the Indonesia’s busiest and most in-demand bass players) and drummer Gusti Hendy (of the Indonesian mega pop-rock sensation Gigi), Dictionary 3 sees the band propelling each other to new musical heights, as they embark on a fresh journey that probes previously unexplored sonic terrain while keeping the accelerated mashed down to the floorboard!”

Few reviews on Levin Brothers album
… a hearty portion of tightly cohesive songs that merge the best of Bach with the pace of bop.”
      – Ira Kantor’s, Elmore Magazine (USA)
“… every single cut qualifies as a standout!”
     –  Peter Thelen’, Exposè (USA)
“… This is pure jazz, inspired by the music that the brothers heard in the fifties and came to love.”
     – Wolfgang Giese’s, RockTimes (Germany)
” … there is a remarkable purity and innocence to this music. THE LEVIN BROTHERS manages to be both serious and playful without ever losing the passion and edge that comes from pairing two masters of their instruments playing a style of music they both love. A terrific album not just for fans of classic jazz, but for fans of music, period.”
      – Jason Warburg, The Daily Vault (USA)
“… a player from the Jazz league has teamed up with one from the Progressive league and they both show just how they can swing. ‘Cool’ doesn’t come close to fully describing this album.”
      – Travis Rogers, Jazz Times Magazine
As a French Horn major, Pete Levin earned a master’s degree from the Juilliard School. In the early ‘70s he switched to keyboards, becoming a synthesizer specialist in the New York City recording studio scene. Over the years, he has graced hundreds of jazz and pop recordings and performances by the likes of Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Jimmy Giuffre, Dave Brubeck, David Sanborn, Joe Louis Walker, Don Elliott, Freddie Hubbard, Annie Lennox, Paul Simon, Brian Ferry, Hiram Bullock, Gerry Mulligan, Chuck Mangione, Charles Mingus, Jaco Pastorius, John Scofield, Wayne Shorter, Dave Stryker, Lenny White, and man y others. He currently leads The Monday Night Orchestra featuring internationally known New York musicians, core alumni members of the seminal freewheeling Grammy-winning Gil Evans Orchestra of the mid and late ’70s, reunited recently to celebrate the band’s legendary “Monday Night At Sweet Basil” era.
Since graduating from the Eastman School of music, Tony Levin has become the bass and Chapman Stick voice for Peter Gabriel and King Crimson. In addition, he has played on notable recordings for John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Dire Straits, Carly Simon, Judy Collins, Peter Frampton, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks, Todd Rundgren, Warren Zevon, Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, Laurie Anderson, Liquid Tension Experiment, Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, Bozzio Holdsworth Levin Mastelotto and many others. Tony has major jazz credentials, having worked with Buddy Rich, Steps Ahead, L’Image, Gary Burton, Chuck Mangione, Herbie Mann, and many others. He currently records and tours with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Stick Men, and The Crimson ProjeKCt.
Recently Tony Levin has recorded two sessions for MoonJune Records for the upcoming albums of the Indonesian guitar icon Dewa Budjana, with Jack DeJohnette on drums and piano and Gary Husband on piano, keyboards and drums.

“Mark Wingfield…determination to take his instrument
into previously-unknown territory”  – Anil Prasad, InnerViews
Dear MoonJune Friends
Following in the tradition of the greatest pioneering guitarists of XX century – icons such as Beck, Torn, Rypdal, Fripp, Holdsworth, Belew, Frisell and Hendrix – American-born Englishman Mark Wingfieldoffers a completely new vision for the potential of sound and expression that the electric guitar holds, establishing an entirely new vocabulary and palette of tones. But, for Mark, that is where the “following” abruptly ends! With sensitive, dynamic support from fellow messengers, upright bassist Yaron Stavi and drummer extraordinaire Asaf Sirkis“Proof of Light” ventures to sonic destinations whose coordinates lie well off the intergalactic map. Fresh, vital and completely inventive, in the truest sense, the music this fabulous trio produces is reminiscent of the ECM “glory years”, from the late ’70’s through the mid ’80’s. The performances are bold and daring, and bordering on the telepathic; the compositions are profoundly visionary and innovative, yet still heartfelt. Equally pleasing to connoisseurs of ‘guitar albums,’ cutting-edge progressive jazz, and eclectic progressive music, “Proof of Light”  is immediately essential: showcasing Mark Wingfield as one of the most imaginative, imperative voices on guitar to emerge in this new millennium.
“In Proof Of Light, Mark Wingfield‘s debut album on MoonJune Records, the instruments have been relieved of their usual responsibilities and constraints and are thus able to better serve the emotional intensity of this highly charged and powerfully lyrical music. Mark Wingfield‘s guitar serves as thesinger through the creation of mercurial fluid vocalizing and often feels more like light coming through different layers of fabric than an electrified stringed instrument. Asaf Sirkis‘ amazing drumming seems to mimic weather conditions, full of dynamic tension and give and take. His style possesses the fullest imaginable range of pitches and velocities giving both structure and atmosphere to the songs. Upright bass has never sounded this assertive and large, and Yaron Stavi creates a gorgeous and authoritative looming presence in the music. All three players also take turns playing melodic leads. “Proof Of Light’is one of the most inspired and original recordings heard in recent years.”
          – Daniel Burke (contributor to Jazz Inside)
Like the artwork on his new album Proof of Light, Mark Wingfield’s music soars high above the subliminal, the terrestrial, the mundane, transporting us with his musical voyage. Eschewing the traditional role of the guitar in a trio, his axe takes on the role of a vocalist or a horn – shimmering and sometimes bellowing with expression and imagery of profound beauty. Progressive innovative guitar at its finest!
          – Jerry Gordon (Serenade to a Cuckoo, WPRB Radio, Princeton University)
Mark Wingfield‘s influences are rooted in John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Jimi Hendrix  and as well in  jazz, rock, Indian, Japanese, African and classical music. Part of the hallmark of both his guitar playing and his composing, is that these influences are fused with western classical music, and integrated into a distinctive musical voice. His compositions blend lyrical melodies with a distinctive harmonic palette and sometimes complex rhythmic components. He has recorded numerous albums as a leader, and has recorded or performed with internationally acclaimed musicians including Iain Ballamy, Kevin Kastning, Asaf Sirkis, Yaron Stavi, Thomas Strønen, Jeremy Stacey, Robert Mitchell, Jane Chapman, René von Grünig, Christoph Leistner. Wingfield was also involved with the ground breaking internet band ResRocket within which he played with such musicians as Tricky, Matt Black, Peter Gabriel, Elliott Randall, Todd Rundgren and Dave Stewart.
Yaron Stavi, based in Lodon and originally from Israel, has played and recorded previously with Gilad Atzmon, Robert Wyatt, Nigel Kennedy, Richard Galliano, David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, John Etheridge, Asaf Sirkis.
Asaf Sirkis, also originally from Israel and based in London, has played and recorded previously with Gilad Atzmon, Tim Garland, Gwylim Simcock, Gary Husband, Larry Coryell, John Abercrombie, Jeff Berlin.

Dear MoonJune Friends
this is a very special release of a very special friend, and one of my favorite artists today, Dewa Budjana.
Joined by a superb cast of marquee players, Dewa Budjana‘s new release (his 4th on MoonJune), Hasta Karma sets a new benchmark for modern progressive jazz excellence in the 21st century. With a vibe and feel more akin to that of a band with decades of experience together, Dewa Budjana and his stellar session-mates – the legendary NYC vibraphonist Joe Locke, and Pat Metheny Unity Group’s rhythm core: the fabulous, articulate young upright bassist Ben Williams, and the extraordinary maestro drummer Antonio Sanchez – create superlative atmospheric textures that transport listeners to destinations of soaring altitude. Augmenting proceedings further is the glowing work of the legendary Indonesian keyboardist Indra Lesmana.Showcasing his compositional and arrangement skills at their absolute finest, most finely-honed, Budjana has delivered his ultimate masterpiece in Hasta Karma. Capitalizing on their extraordinary gifts, Dewa Budjana pushes the band, and his music, to new, unparalleled heights. Oozing quality at every turn and dripping emotion throughout, this is music that is supremely visionary, ambitious and majestic. … and, perhaps in spite of its polish, it is undeniably straight from the heart. All the players involved contribute some of the most convincing performances of their impressive careers, yet the multifarious displays of individual greatness never upstage the corporate sanctity of the musical moment. Hasta Karma is modern progressive jazz at its most sensitive – and its very best.

Recorded during the simakDialog‘s first USA tour in 2013 at Orion Studios in Baltimore. On this double album of almost 2hrs of music, the Indonesian band offers up their own brand of inspired and spirited music of extreme integrity which listens as much as it speaks.

Leader, composer and (Fender) Rhodes scholar, Riza Arshad, possesses one of the most capable sets of hands ever to grace a Fender Rhodes. His manipulation of this classic keyboard, whose warm and slightly rounded metallic voice has helped define modern jazz, brings out the very best it has to offer as he charts out new territories of sound. Arshad’s wonderfully sophisticated compositions form the perfect armature for the musicians to flesh out the sound in a very organic way that compels the listener to deeply take it all in. Tohpati’s guitar work is the perfect dancing partner to Arshad’s keys as he can lead or follow depending on the needs of each composition. His subtle atmospherics bring to mind David Torn, Terje Rypdal and Nels Cline, while his leadwork can possess both the fluidity of Holdsworth and the  aggressiveness of Jeff Beck. Though there is no shortage of acrobatic axe-wielding on “Live at Orion”, Tohpati’s democratic interplay with Riza’s gorgeous Rhodes is the real star here – creating a powerful synergy that gives voice to the whole of the music over its parts. The rhythm section of Endang Ramdan and Erlan Suwardana, each on Sudanese kendang percussion, along with Cucu Kurnia on assorted metal percussion and  the understated and convincing “Bitches Brew” funk groove of bassistRudy Zulkarnaen, creates a formidable foundation of one of the most original and  innovative progressive electric jazz artists today. NYC based Uruguayan guitarist Beledo is guesting on the closing tune of the album.

International debut of Tesla Manaf’s, the young and gifted Indonesian guitarist from the city of Bandung, who delivers his main goal as a musician – “to convert spoken words into notes”. Two al;bums on one cd: “A Man’s Relationship with His Fragile Area” (2014) and “It’s All Yours” (2011)
Direct link for more info and purchase options: www.moonjune.com
Tesla Manaf’s guitar work pairs the string texture and physicality of Andres Segovia and Django Reinhardt, with the phrasing and pacing of Ralph Towner and Pat Metheny, through to the present compositional ebbs and flows of Mary Halvorson and Gilad Hekselman. Mind you, these are merely scrap-book points of reference — the end result is extremely original, fresh and inspiring. There is at work here a youthful and enthusiastic sense of risk-taking which is most revealing and rewarding listen after listen. His unique approach to modern composition assures that you won’t necessarily find the traditional song elements of verse, chorus, solo, bridge or refrain and, if you do, they very likely will not occupy the accepted position or possess the interrelationship you have come to expect. This “turning on its head” approach to composition, along with each player’s technique and choice of instrument tone color, gives great impact to the experience of listening deeply to each track. “A Man’s Relationship with His Fragile Area (his last album recorded in 2014  – first 8 compositions on the CD) is all about movement – you find yourself taking the journey with Tesla Manaf (guitar), Hadis ‘Hulhul’ Hendarisman (clarinet, tarompet pencak, Indonesian flute), Rudy Zulkarnaen (upright bass) and Desal Sembada (drums). Your route is paved with gorgeous arpeggiated guitar lines intertwined with sinuous dancing clarinet and fueled by subtle yet insistent basslines with the most delicate use of drumkit. Midstream reflection of this musical experience is granted through the equally composed use of silence and pause. The effortless performance of these idiosyncratic songs belies their complexity. The second half of this cd includes Tesla’s earlier album “It’s All Yours” (recorded in 2011) featuring the Balinese ensemble Mahagotra Ganesha. Tesla’s guitar work on this recording possesses the playful melodicism of King Sunny Ade and is perfectly complemented by the resonant metallic voices of the Mahagotra Ganesha ensemble’s Gamelan, Gangsa, Ceng Ceng, Kantil, Gong and Kemplug.

American born Englishman, perhaps totally unknown and a  pretty obscure name to many, is arguably one the greatest electric guitarist that has emerged in the XXI century. Mark Wingfield is releasing his transcendental groundbreaking new album of immense beauty “Proof of Light” in February 2015 on  MoonJune Records, which features two among my favorite musicians today, Yaron Stavi on upright bass, and Asaf Sirkis on drums. It’s not often an album is released that is so daring in its approach and revolutionary in its delivery that it actually changes one’s perspective of how music can be expressed and expands their vision of a genre.  It is the great privilege and honor for me to present just such an album of the otherworldly guitar stylings of critically-acclaimed guitarist, and in meantime, as an ‘appetizer’, I am inviting You to download Mark’s fabulous music from his ten previous albums. Stay tuned for more news on “Proof of Light”.

For British electric guitarist Mark Wingfield, the words “organic” and “electronic” are not mutually exclusive. He explores highly-imaginative tones and colors via his instrument and it’s done without reliance on conventional effects, amps or pickups. His unique take on the guitar has served as the basis for an impressively diverse discography and dozens of compositions that showcase how he extends the guitar’s boundaries, as well as the many genres and influences he chooses to integrate into his work. A handful of the forms Wingfield’s output encompasses include jazz, rock, classical, and global sounds from Africa, India, Japan, and Turkey.  Anil Prasad, Innerviews

Serbian-Japanese combo from New York City YAGULL

releases its official debut for MoonJune Records and finds the band expanding its post-rock

chamber soundtrack concept to great effect on this highly-polished sophomore effort.

Dear MoonJune Friends in Music
Yagull‘s official debut for MoonJune Records, Kai, finds the band expanding its post-rock chamber soundtrack concept to great effect.  The result is a simmering sonic bouillabaisse, chocked full of choice ingredients which delectably merge to blur the lines drawn by traditional genres — delightfully teasing the palette, while appealing to an expansive range of music aficionados! The group delivers twelve songs on this joyous outing: eight brand new compositions; two tunes from their previous album Films, reworked and revisited; plus, two tastefully-revised classic rock covers (Deep Purple and Free). The tracks showcaseYagull‘s considerably potent stylistic capacity, making for a savory, finely-polished sophomore release. This new effort finds Yagull now launching itself from a duo framework — with Sasha Markovic being joined by the extraordinary pianist, Kana Kamitsubo — this most special of occasions is perfectly accentuated by a host of guest contributors; featuring fellow MoonJune international recording maestros, Beledo (guitar, lute) and Dewa Budjana (guitar), in addition to Marko Djordjevic (drums), and many other great musicians. With Kai, Sasha, Kana & company have embarked on a majestic journey that will appeal to a broad range of listeners … and carry them along for the ride!
